Willys Forum / Re: 1955 Willys Custom Driver Quality

These cars should be worth a lot more.  My original 55 Bermuda gets more love and attention than my 57 high dollar Ford E code Sunliner conv.  Most people have never seen one and love to have their pictures taken with " Sweet Willie".  Of course 90% have no idea that Willys ever built a car.

I haven't been able to post for a couple of years and don't even know how I got here.  Hope I can get back here again.

Most electric fuel pumps are pulse type and do make noise.  High end   motorized ones are much quieter.  Never bolt an electric pump directly to body or frame, this will amplify the noise.  Best to hang from a piece of belting with no pump fasteners touching metal.  Of course if your pump is single wire a separate ground will be required.

Not adjustable.  I don't know the exact operation, but it is a constantly pulsating device to keep voltage constant and limit excess voltage and spikes.  Ford also used these and could probably be adapted.

Float level?  Fuel filter?  Dwell?   If this is a new condition it is probably not the transmission.

Are you saying that the pitman arm is loose on the output shaft splines?  If you can fit some thin shim  stock as you suggested it should work.  Don't forget about red Locktite or Devcon shaft builder,  I've used both with success.  All depends on how loose  Tom.

I'm going to look at it tomorrow evening.  Anyone have anything they would like me to check out?  Tom.

Although Farm jacks are versatile especially in off road adventures it is probably overkill for your use.  They are heavy and ungainly and very tippy with their small base.  Don't ever lift both rear wheels off ground at the same time with one of these.  A bumper jack should be placed as near the bumper guard as possible as it is bolted there.

I have a high end 57 Ford e code Conv. And A Beautiful 63 Rivera, but my all origonal 55 Aero Bermuda draws more attention, maybe its the roof rack and vintage luggage or the Wally World bumper sticker or the fact that they have no idea what it is.  And they always want pictures.  Funnest.

Although I'm also a Ford flathead lover I hardly see much advantage to a flathead swap.  226s or at least my Willys has 110 HP.  Ford flatheads are rated at 100 to 110, and Mercuys 125.  Nailhead Buick 401 cu in, 445 ft lbs torque, 300 hp.  Narrow easy fit.  Be novel and use a late Flite Pitch Dynaflow or bullet proof TH400.  At least that's my fantasy.

I could use some too.  With the spring broken the handle has to be pushed forward everytime.  Try as I might I haven't been able to come up with an alternative.

Sneaky Petes are made by Lisle tools and are available on Ebay.  If you can lift the crank a half inch or so the seal can probably be installed.  I've never done it that way.  Good luck.

Try to acquire some old asbestos seals.  The new asbestos free seals are not good.  You can use a Sneaky Pete to pull the upper seal  thru although it is easier to do if crank bolts are loosened.  As easy as it is to remove these engines thats a good idea for replacement.
