Willys Forum / Cracked windshield rubber
« on: November 18, 2020, 09:19:47 PM »
Sweet Willy is in the garage for the winter and I'm bored, waiting to go south on the first.  Decided the cracked windshield rubber is unsightly.  Used two part plastic bumper repair material, it is harder than silicone and easier to finish.  Of course the rubber is fairly hard.  Cleaned and masked the area.  Be sure to overfill.  Between 80 grit to shape and 400 to finish and very careful use of Exacto knife it came out quite well.  The filler comes out dark grey after sanding.  A bit of black shoe polish took care of that.  Finished picture of R. side shown.

Accolades to Barbara Mueller.  My Jan. newsletter failed to get forwarded to my winter address and was returned to her.  She personally called me and apologized and offered to send the E edition which she did.  Thanks again Barbara.  Tom.

Willys Forum / 226 water pump
« on: September 19, 2019, 04:57:39 PM »
Can anyone say that a 55 Jeep water pump won't fit a Willys  Aero?  They sure look the same. I've used a bearing assy. and seal for one and it fit.

Looks like I'm going to need a water pump for sweet Willie.  1955 Bermuda 226.  Are all Super Hurricane pumps the same?  And can anyone direct me to a source of a pump or bearing shaft kit?  Thanks.

Willys Forum / Idler arm sloppy
« on: August 30, 2018, 10:41:16 AM »
I'm sure this has been discussed many times but I can't find much.  Are oversize idler arm bushings available?  And has anyone come up with an alternate fix.  55 Bermuda.  Thank you.

Willys Forum / Tire rubbing
« on: May 26, 2018, 05:25:06 PM »
Hi.  I have 205 - 70 - R 15s on my 55 Bermuda.  They rub the suspension, lower spring cup.  I've spaced the wheels with two large diameter 1/2" washers.  There is still enough threads left but I'm not really pleased with the set up.  Are there 4 hole 1/4" spacers available?  Comments?

Willys Forum / 54 in Mesa
« on: March 29, 2018, 01:43:47 PM »
Saw a 54 tudor at a Mesa AZ car show last week.  Had a small block Chevy.  Couldn't locate the owner to discuss suspension and such and an too old to lay on the ground anymore.  Nice car.  I would like to find a decent Aero to street rod,  Nailhead Buick and TH 400.  What have others done with front suspension?  Would never do it to my 55 Bermuda survivor, love it the way it is.

Have all us old AERO guys died or are all our cars working perfectly.  No postings in almost 3 weeks.  Looking forward to getting Sweet Willy out of winter storage and going for a run when I get home in 3 weeks.

Willys Forum / Willy's Cowl to Hood Seal
« on: September 02, 2016, 06:14:24 PM »
I saw some discussion in an old post about Willys hood to cowl seal.  Of course my hood was catching on cowl and actually caused damage.  I finally tired of having to put shims on top of the seal to prevent binding.  I had some Ford 8M 16070-A Anti squeak rubber from an earlier restoration, probably because it only came in a 15 ft. roll.  The ford application was for inner fenders to cowl seals, stapled to inner fenders.  Applied with contact cement.  I have yet to find a weatherstrip cement that actually works.  Anyone?   Seems to work fine and does not look incorrect except to a trained eye.

Hi;  Does anyone have or know where one can get interior door handle remote control return springs for a 55 Bermuda.  I have to push handles back to center every time.  Only thing wrong with Sweet Willy.  Thanks.  Tom.

Willys Forum / 1955 Aero Bermuda shocks
« on: July 31, 2013, 07:57:55 PM »
Sweet Willy now has all new shocks.  Tremendous improvement in ride and handling, especially the front.  I used Monroe Gasmatics On the rear, they are the ones shown on Ebay for the Willys, # 31094.  My original shocks (  Monroe 811643 ) are 2 7/16" longer extended and  2 7/8"  shorter compressed.  However they should be fine.  The fronts on the other hand are not listed anywhere I could find.  I searched the Monroe specification charts and only found one that was very close to my original MAECO 90613 shocks that measure 14 1/4 extended and 9 1/2 compressed.  Monroe Gas Magnum RV shock #555003 lists at 14.750" extended and 9.625 collapsed, They have L1 loops on both ends.  I have a picture of an earlier car suspension which shows a stud for top mounting, so I'm not sure these will fit the earlier cars.  I got he best price from Rock Auto .Com.  $19.46 ea. for the front and $ 15.99 ea. for the rear, plus shipping of course.  On another note I found the the rear rear rubber shackle bushings to be the same as Ford A9AZ- 5781- A, takes 8 Bshgs.
