Title: Man, that's heavy!
Post by: DaveF on March 04, 2017, 07:55:29 PM
Is it just me?  The trunk lid on my '52 Manhattan takes two hands to lift open!  How did ladies back then load groceries!?

Trunk lid on my '53 lifts with one finger-the 52 mechanism was different, but never was aware of much difference in performance. Would expect you have a hinge issue.

51-52 deck lids have no counter balance springs. They are like lifting the hood on a cheap new car. Maybe your hinges are rusty or worn out. If the hinges aren't binding up then that's as good as it is.

Hi Kaiser Friends....

The hinges on my '52 Manhattan are "great"...... Just commenting for interesting replies.
Anyone with a '51-'52 Kaiser open their trunk lid to full raised position with one hand only?

Mine opens very easily. I even had a set of hinges replated last summer and installed them myself. No problems even when lifting or  propping the trunk lid on my '51 K.

Yes, that's the way I always open it. Lift latch and then lift lid  with one hand.
