Started attending the summer season of car shows here in So Cal. First was the Downey Street Fair car show 5/1 by Old Memories San Gaberial Valley photo here http://www.oldmemoriessgv.com/images/May_01_2010_070.jpg (http://www.oldmemoriessgv.com/images/May_01_2010_070.jpg) and then Goodguys Orange County at Costa Mesa fairground on the 15th, photos start as last photo on this page http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2010/4th-annual-goodguys/page6.html (http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2010/4th-annual-goodguys/page6.html) by Dave Lindsey who runs SoCalcarculture.com, the best car site for So Cal. I know. He took 40 photos of the car! (300-315, 319-331, 689, 690, 835-845) Had the trans go out on the way home and was not able to return on the 16th. The car is presently in the shop but I hope to continue showing it later.
-
Hey! I saw your car at the Goodguys show! It is beautiful! Sorry to hear about the transmission trouble.
-
I met you at the El Segundo car show, I had the Kaiser logo shirt on.
-
Ah yes! I remember now. Glad to finally see your traveler. :)
-
Actually, at that time I had a 51 Traveler Special that I had started restoration on when I found this Deluxe in MUCH better condition with an automatic too.
-
So do you still have your special?
-
No, i finally sold it out of state.
-
The September issue of Drive! magazine (Not yet available here) http://www.motortopia.com/driveonline/ (http://www.motortopia.com/driveonline/) has a photo of my car on page 36! The magazine is distributed throughout California. I have entered the Lakewood car show, Cruise for a Cure, Bellflower and El Segundo car show. See you there!
-
Been driving the Traveler to a lot of shows, in addition to the ones listed, I did one at work, Monterey Park, Los Alamitos (which is on an air base with planes and helicopters too), one at Bobs Big Boy in Downey, went to the So. Cal. meet in Perris (at the railroad museum), The John Force show in Yorba Linda (1 photo here http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2010show/johnforcedec5/ (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2010show/johnforcedec5/), more here http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2010/john-force-holiday-/page7.html (http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2010/john-force-holiday-/page7.html)), and Mooneyes christmas show at Irwindale. Only saw 2 Kaisers, at Cruise for a cure (So. Cal KFOCI members) so lets get those cars out there! Looking forward to going to the San Diego national next year.

Also, Hot August Nights is expanding from Reno to Long Beach this year. I will have my car at The Pike May 7th for a preview of the event.
-
Try to do only 1 show a weekend but this Saturday did Floral Park in Santa Ana. Car show, about 25 cars, with a home and garden tour and people selling antiques and such. http://classiccruisersnoc.com/gallery/FloralParkShow2011/images/img_2269.jpg (http://classiccruisersnoc.com/gallery/FloralParkShow2011/images/img_2269.jpg)
Today was the Orange car show, a nice town with a lot of antique stores. About 425 cars. And a Kaiser Darrin owned by Joe Robbins got best of class.
-
Awesome to here about the Darrin. There is a Car show in Seal beach April 30th, will you be attending?
-
Thanks for the links!
-
Awesome to here about the Darrin. There is a Car show in Seal beach April 30th, will you be attending?
No, I will be at the Edelbrock show in Torrance on May 1st.
-
Today we went to La Verne. Good show. And for the first time there was another Traveler! Ron Fredriksen had his 4 door there. He told me that he won a tailgating photo contest by Automobile magazine. That was cool! http://www.facebook.com/automobilemag#!/automobilemag?sk=photos (http://www.facebook.com/automobilemag#!/automobilemag?sk=photos)
-
Was checking photos for the Orange show and in the photo of Joe Robbins Darrin, I see my wife and I standing on the right! http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/17th_annual_orange_plaza_car_show/html/orangeplazacarshowapril17_27.php (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/17th_annual_orange_plaza_car_show/html/orangeplazacarshowapril17_27.php)
Also 3 photos from La Verne http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/LaVerne_Cool_Car_Cruise_2011 (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/LaVerne_Cool_Car_Cruise_2011) and here http://www.photoreflect.com/store/ThumbPage.aspx?e=7999390&g=0LWM01E302 (http://www.photoreflect.com/store/ThumbPage.aspx?e=7999390&g=0LWM01E302)

Your traveler was looking great today!
-
Thanks, next time say hi! Less cars than last year, but still good. Next Saturday we will be at the Pike in Long Beach for a preview of Hot August nights, then the 15th at All American Originals in Tustin. Learned today the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo has an orphan car show on June 25th, the day we leave for the Nationals in San Diego. Guess it will be a long day.
-
That sounds like a long but fun day.
I don't know if you have ever been to the El Segundo Automobile Driving Museum, but they have a 53 kaiser, and 48(?) Kaiser and a 49 Frazer.
I didn't know they were having a show on June 25th.. I'll have to ask about entering..
-
Well the Spring Fling AND Hot August Nights in Long Beach has been cancelled so we're going to the George Barris show in Culver City.
See if you can find 2 photos of our car on this page. http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/laverne_cool_cruise_2011_roger/ (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/laverne_cool_cruise_2011_roger/)
Yes, I have been to the ADM several times.
-
People love to take photos of the hood ornament and badge!
-
My wife says the photos could be of the other Traveler that was there.
Today we did the George Barris car show in Culver City. Good show with lots of cars. Got an award and photo with George! Will be looking for photos to post or link here. There was a guy with a 54 Kaiser Manhattan there that said he only goes to that show as he doesn't trust his car too far. I showed him (and others) the Bulletin and suggested he join the club.
-
There was another green traveler there??
And the Culver show sounds like it was awesome. I'd really love to see pictures of the '54... I 've never seen a running '54 in so cal except for a wild custom hot rodded one...
-
Randy posted some photos on FaceBook from that Car Show.
Did not think he would mind if I shared them with you.

What color is this?

Enjoy
-
That '54 looks very nice, I hope he joins the club.
-
Thats my lovely wife in the window. About the same photo here http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/george_barris_culver_city_car_show_mike/html/georgebarriscarshowmay7mike_63.php (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/george_barris_culver_city_car_show_mike/html/georgebarriscarshowmay7mike_63.php) but you should check out all the other cars, there were some wild ones, like the pool table car and a shortened bug. Heres one with me on the left http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/george_barris_culver_city_car_show_may_7_les/html/georgebarriscarshowmay7les_15.php (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/george_barris_culver_city_car_show_may_7_les/html/georgebarriscarshowmay7les_15.php) (I'm not the kid) waiting to park, there were so many cars. Next 2 photos of the inside and back befor we unpacked. Thats another reason to have a Traveler, it carries a lot of stuff. And a photo of the awards, http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/george_barris_culver_city_car_show_may_7_les/html/page_2_97.php (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/george_barris_culver_city_car_show_may_7_les/html/page_2_97.php) one of which I received. Still waiting for the photo of me with George Barris.
Found another one here http://www.examiner.com/classic-autos-in-national/george-barris-cruisin-back-to-the-fifties-culver-city-car-show-2011-picture#slide=32965301 (http://www.examiner.com/classic-autos-in-national/george-barris-cruisin-back-to-the-fifties-culver-city-car-show-2011-picture#slide=32965301)

May 15 started to go to the all American Originals show and it was raining. As soon as I turned on the wipers, the drivers side flew off! Thought it was broken shaft so we went home. It turned out to be a good day and I got the wiper fixed but would have liked to gone.
Took a break from shows and got the Hydramatic adjusted, went to our cabin over Memorial day (and it snowed, a rarity here in So. Cal.)
Today did the Classic Cruisers North Orange County show in Anaheim, Canyon RV park. Very nice day, lots of cars under the trees, games, excellent raffle and a very nice goody bag. There was another Kaiser there, a 4 door convertable owned by Jim Williams. Both he and I got nice awards too. Studebakers did good too. On the way out all the CCNOC members stood by the side of the road thanking the people leaving. Very good job done by them. http://classiccruisersnoc.com/gallery/canyoncruise060511/images/100_0163.jpg (http://classiccruisersnoc.com/gallery/canyoncruise060511/images/100_0163.jpg)

Way to show the KF flag!! Congratulations!
-
On the 11th we attended the Fountain Valley car show held in conjunction with the Summerfest. The cars were setup by class and this is the first show I have been to where they had the cars drive up to the presentation stage. Got a couple photos here. http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/fountain_valley_car_show_2011/index.php (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/fountain_valley_car_show_2011/index.php) People like taking photos of the hood ornament. Talked to the guy from Hotrodhotline.com and Dave Lindsay from Socalcarculture.com was there too. http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2011/fountain-valley-cla/page2.html (http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2011/fountain-valley-cla/page2.html) I have corrected the sign. Next car show... the Nationals!
-
I'm wondering if the color on that 54 is original. Several years ago, a SoCal member...John Parker...had another like it that belonged to Jane Mansfield and he was trying to sell it. The car needed alot but was solid and I had expressed interest. Unfortunately, a job relo nixed the idea of owning the car so he parted it out and scrapped the rest. At the time, I thought Jane's car was the only one in that color...looks like there may be another.
I'd be willing to bet that a look at the trim tag would reveal a special order 999/888 code.
-
Bixby Knolls was a good show, with the cacklefest. There was an inside exhibit of auto and art that was nice. Then had a small show in Huntington Beach. Last weekend the Sultans had a show in Signal Hill. I got a top 10 out of over 200 cars and won 6 raffle items between my wife and I. http://www.flickr.com/photos/primerpodcast/sets/72157627255522105/?page=3 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/primerpodcast/sets/72157627255522105/?page=3) has a couple of photos.
-
Went to a car show where my cabin is, Pine Mountain Club, then did Whitter. Got a good spot by the stage thanks to meeting the promoter at another car show. Won some stuff in the raffle too. Then got free BBQ at Fresh & Easy so it was a good day. http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2011/11th-annual-uptown-/page4.html (http://public.fotki.com/wackydave/car_shows/car-shows-2011/11th-annual-uptown-/page4.html) has one photo of the car and one of the water bag I found. Its from the 50s, from a auto parts chain store in northern California. I like it as it says "Its Grand in California". Another of us cruising in http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/whittier_car_show_aug_20/html/whittieraug20roger_38.php (http://www.hotrodhotline.com/feature/2011show/whittier_car_show_aug_20/html/whittieraug20roger_38.php)

Yesterday did a smaller show at La Habra High school. We got a best interior award! It was a suprise as the interior is original with cracks in the front seat. I was told it was for the display of period specific items (cooler, water jug, picnic basket, cooker, car bingo (that has Kaiser in it), Kaiser camping manual, fishing items, etc) that we put together to show how the car would have been used. It was nice to be reconized for our effort to add something to the car for people to enjoy, we always hear people tell us "we had one of those".
-
So a few weeks ago I noticed that the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance was having a special display of cars designed by Howard "Dutch" Darrin. I sent them photos of our Traveler (as this was an invitation only event) and they accepted! We spent yesterday at the Donald Trump National golf club, on the greens, oceanside, with 5 54 Darrins around us and several Darrin designed Packards, Rolls Royces and a Ford. There were many other beautiful, amazing cars, some that we never get to see at regular car shows. A pine colored Darrin won our class.
-
I see that one of my Darrin pedal cars made it to the show too! It's great to see them "on the road"!
-
Done a few car shows in the past few months. The last one was the La Habra Lions Operation Santa toy drive. We got best decorated car, we even had a tree in the back!
-
Got the Automobile Driving Museum (in El Segundo) newsletter today. It has 2 photos of the Darrin cars at the Palos Verdes Concours in it.
-
joefrazer - Are there any of those Darrin pedal cars still available?
Gary.
-
The Darrin Roster now owns the mold for the pedal car bodies. You'll want to check with Terry to see if he's produced any.
-
Thank you! Oh, Terry, are you out there?
Gary.
-
yep--check your emails
-
Did the Edelbrock show in Torrance last weekend.

Did a cool show at Cal Poly U in Pomona today. It had a tractor show, petting zoo, horse rides and the Farm store where they sell lots of produce and plants, for great prices. Won Best original engine too.
-
Forgot about a show in Pomona where we got a best of show and one at UC Irvine.
-
Haven't posted in a while as we have been keeping busy. Did the Muckenthaler Concours, Frazier Park, one in Huntington Beach, The BBQ Festival and car show in Costa Mesa where we got best original, Tustin, Cruis'n Brea, La Habra, where we won 5 raffle prizes. Then spent 2 weeks for work in Florida, where I went to a few antique stores and got a '50s Brownie camera for the car. Since then its been real hot here but we did a show at The Pike in Long Beach, a cruise night in Cerritos where we won one raffle prize, the coolest car award and the $227 50/50! Another in Long beach netted the best orphan award and yesterday in Norwalk we got an very nice award from the president of the California Elks. Comming up is El Segundo, Belmont Shore, another in Long Beach, and one on the Redondo Beach Pier. Haven't seen any other Kaisers out there but we talk to a lot of people about it. One guy is working on one and another sold me a very rare hardcover book that is the 1947 report that Floyd Clymer wrote about buying a Kaiser in Willow Run then driving back to Los Angeles. Its a very detailed report on the Kaiser and he talked to other Kaiser owners including a 3000 response survey. It has lots of great photos too.
-
Did El Segundo, skipped Belmont Shores to go to Oregon to look at houses, and did another in Long Beach.
Just got informed by a guy that did a photo shoot of the car that it is in an online magazine http://editions.amospublishing.com/AEW/default.aspx?d=20120921&pagenum=1 (http://editions.amospublishing.com/AEW/default.aspx?d=20120921&pagenum=1) The article starts on page 38.
I always said if I was going to buy a Traveler to use, I would get a 4 door to be able to get to the rear easier. Well, I found one, a 53, with power steering too. I was thinking of getting rid of the 51 but it has some nice things about it, more chrome on the dash, a neater hood ordament, nice styling, so I will keep both for a while. Its hard to decide which to show!
-
Nice pics in that magazine. Awesome car.
-
Looks like a Keeper !!!

Here's a link to photos of the Rancho Los Amigos show.

Did a medium size show in Brea on Saturday where we got the best original award then a small show in Lakewood on Sunday where we got the best original award also!

Things are slowing down so maybe I will be able to do some shows with you. You going to Long Beach K-9?

Here's our 1951 Kaiser Traveler Deluxe with the best of show trophy and all the other stuff we brought to the La Habra Valley Community Fair June 8th. The ribbon is for Pats award winning baking and the eggs from our own chicken.
-
This weekend we traveled to Burbank, entertainment capitol of the world. Friday night we went to Bob's Big Boy restaurant, popular with car guys, where it was packed with old cars and people. There were some young people there too. Saturday we joined about 200 other cars at the Downtown Burbank car show. Got some great swag, 3 shirts and a framed poster, thanks Marissa. Talked to a guy who worked at Willow Run doing data entry. He said if he got a number wrong they might install the wrong transmission in a car. Had Chris from USA Today do a 2 minute video interview with me about the car. It should be on their web site soon. I did not know they had awards, as I bring the car out to show people what was built besides Chevy and Ford back then, so I was surprised to get the Most Unique Vehicle trophy after which I was interviewed by Joyce from MyBurbank.com. Also talked to another KFOCI member who didn't have any of his cars running. I encourage members to get their cars out to shows, people are really interested in them, can tell some stories about them and want to know more. I will post photos later.
-
You guys sound like me when I was more involved. Now there are just too many things going on involving the kids. Give me a few years and I will have more time to join you at these local shows.
Our Henry J will be done in about 2 months.
-
No kids saves us a lot of time & money!

hmmm, I am trying to see the attachments but they do not display or download. I checked my browser settings and it does not seem to be the problem. When I visit other discussions on this forum with attachments they all display properly so I am wondering if you could repost the pics from the first car show of the year?
Thanks.

Been remiss in posting due to travel to Oregon and Russia. Did one in Ventura at the balloon festival, Lakewood, Monrovia, Carson, Glendora, Buena park, the So cal region December get together and this one in Brea. Our take home from the Brea Baptist Church car show, 1 of 10 best of show trophy's, 3 raffle wins - 2 crates of peanuts (155 bags), 2 $25 gift certificates to a restaurant, a book on Edlebrock, 3 T shirts, and a free oil container.
-
There's nothing like a full calendar! Just one thing...you're going to need a 2nd Traveler to carry all the loot!
Gary.
-
Where does the time go? Did the Galpin show last September, Paramount Elks and Los Alamitos airbase where they quit the plane and helicopter show in October then nothing until the So Cal Region get together at the Automobile driving Museum March 12 http://kfclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,8752.0.html then the next day did the Wisteria festival in Sierra Madre.
-
Wow! You are a great ambassador for Kaisers and Frazers. Your photographs are great and we do hope that you get a whole trunk load of prizes.
-
Well, It's been over a year since I last posted but I have been doing shows. I find most of my posting has been on Facebook recently. I have moved with the car to Oregon. Had some some excitement when the driver got the car on the carrier, put it in neutral and got out without putting the parking brake on. The car rolled backward off the truck and into traffic and only stopped when it hit the median. We were very lucky there was no traffic and there was no accident. Our first show here was an indoor show where we did not get to sit with the car and talk to people. Next show was in Grants Pass where I met a couple of people in the club and I saw a Muntz Jet. Got another show this weekend.
-
Shows here in S Oregon are few and far between. One got cancelled as there were fires in the area. Did one in Jacksonville and this weekend was one at Habitat for Humanity ReStore where we got a top 5 out of 60 cars and 5 raffle prizes.
-
Not a lot of shows here. Had some issues with the Traveler and replaced the engine, finding the last automatic setup one in Redding. Then found out about a new Discovery channel car show where they would appraise your car. The Traveler was transported to Los Angeles and I flew there, where we (about 70 other people and their vehicles) were filmed for the show. It is called Sticker Shock and starts today. The car and I have been mentioned several times online http://www.automobilemag.com/news/on-the-set-of-discoverys-sticker-shock (http://www.automobilemag.com/news/on-the-set-of-discoverys-sticker-shock) and http://www.latimes.com/business/autos/la-fi-hy-sticker-shock-20180427-story.html (http://www.latimes.com/business/autos/la-fi-hy-sticker-shock-20180427-story.html) On the way back had the car come loose in the trailer and some lower body damage so had to get that fixed up too. Watch for us!
-
Saw some previews for that show but didn't remember when it would air.
Thanks for the heads up!
-

Had an April show in Eagle Point, June in Grants Pass and one in Medford, July back to Grants Pass, August Central Point and Grants Pass again, then one in Medford where they had interesting awards. This weekend was Jacksonville. Got another 2 or 3 coming up. One got cancelled due to the smoke again. Had to change our sign for Oregon and add the Sticker Shock sign.
-
Added some stuff to the house too and did some farming.
-
curious what kind of awards were given in Medford? thanks
They were like boxing championship belts.

So few shows here I have been helping organize some. Eagle Point in April and Grants Pass June 1st, the first with my new 54. Yesterday was the Medford show where I got to film an interview with Dennis Gage of My Classic Car. Hope it will be on TV in a few months.
-
I like that dark green 51. I always liked the dark green colors.
-
Will be great if the cars get on TV!
-
Our first time at the Rogue River Rooster Crow (humans and chickens compete) Saw this outstanding custom Studebaker.
-
Yesterdays show in Grants Pass was a little smokey with ash falling on the cars from the forest fire north of there but netted a nice oregon shaped plaque.
-
Sept 14 did a car show at a mt resort.

Got an email from Dennis Gage of My Classic Car with the promo for the Medford Cruise and car shows that shows my Traveler at the 12 second point and Miles Chappells Powell pickup at 20 second. Great video John. Congratulations.

Well this year is almost a bust. So many car shows canceled. We have resorted to setting up cruises. Did some to Senior living homes, Fathers day, 4th of July. and some others.
-
There was an invite only car show at the local country club where we joined several other cars that we never see at regular car shows. Couple of other shows were over 70 miles away.

Been to a few shows since 2020. This summer had Lou Costabile from My Car Story film my 51 Traveler. See it here on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G69qqOkYcsM
