Title: fuel tank capacity
Post by: 51kaiser on June 21, 2018, 09:14:53 PM
does anybody know how much fuel a 51 Deluxe tank holds ? I added four gallons - it read about 1/8, added four more about 1/4, added four more now it reads 3/4. I started  from a bone dry tank, had it out to repair the sender.

The '51 Kaiser Owner's manual lists it as 17 gallons.  If you need an owner's manual, you just missed a good deal on this one -

Keep watching, the seller may relist it.

Kaiser gas tank sending units go fast from full to half-way and then slowly from there downwards.

Gas Gauges work off electrical resistance; as the tank float raises and lowers based on what's in the tank the resistance changes.  Besides a failing float (especially the earlier cars with cork floats) poor grounds and electrical connections (they deteriorate to varying degrees over time as part of their normal life) causing the gages to read improperly.  This happens with various makes of car, not just Kaisers.

That owner's manual is back with a reduced price. If I didn't already have several nice ones, I'd grab it up.  In any case, you should be able to get it for a very reasonable price now
