What should the engine color be for a 48 Jeepster ?

The correct color has been debated for some time. From what I've found...

L-head = grey or silver

F-head 4 = Black

F-head 6 = Off white or "Allstate" blue

This probably doesnt apply here but we bought 3 jeep engines after the war and they were dark green. Sealed with cosmoline, dessicant packs by all elec. components, in wooden crates, $100 a copy.

Sounds like you got some military surplus product.  Nothing at all wrong with it, but it won't be the same color as the "civilian" goods.

Mike, if you have an L-head 134, I would go with what Jim Lape recommended - John Deere Green. This is available at Tractor Supply. You could also use Rustoleum Hunter Green, but that more blue in it.

John Deer green is off, at least for Kaiser engines.  Gary Micanek Micanek@att.net advertises the correct dark green paint in the bulletin.  Anyway, I don't know if the Willys uses the same dark green as 51-53 Kaisers, but if so John Deer would not be correct.
