Title: '51 Frazer hood ornaments
Post by: Gordie on June 27, 2019, 01:23:25 PM
The 1951 Kaiser and Frazer cars were the first ones to have a standard factory installed hood ornament although you could buy accessory ornaments from the dealers as early as 1949.  The Frazer ornament was mounted forward on the hood with an attractive clear plastic nose piece that projected even further forward on the hood making a handy but unintended handle to grab when opening or closing the hood.  The plastic nose piece would break off while trying to support the heavy hood and K-F immediately replaced the plastic nose piece with one made of chrome plated metal and that is what you see on most of the surviving '51 Frazers.  The Kaisers and Henry J's and Allstates had similar plastic nose pieces but their breaking off never seemed to be an issue for them.  Seeing an original 1951 Frazer with the original clear plastic ornament is a rare sight.

Here's one of those rare sights. And no, it is not for sale.
