Title: 1953 deLuxe on ebay
Post by: Kenn Evans II on July 16, 2010, 04:28:21 PM
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190417885135&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT   Has anyone else looked this one over?  I noticed the manual trans on the tree and the listing of a dual range hydramatic transmission and the front looks like a 51 with a 52-53 bumper.  Sad to see the front seat and air cleaner housing gone.

This car has been offered for sale before.  It is my personal belief that the seller is hopeful that it goes to someone uninformed.  People need to understand that in our sue-happy society, the last thing you want to do is knowingly misrepresent a vehicle.  Courts across the country have started to recognize that there are limits to the caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) defense.

It is getting harder for people to sell or "unload" misrepresented cars. I can tell by the seller's words, descriptions and overall construction of the ad etc. that he clearly isn't very bright and likely purchased that car from someone else who misrepresented it. Now he's trying to recoupe his loses. Twelve grand for that car?? Common, if a baby boomer (the main market right now)  is sitting on $12,000 and wants to spend it on a classic car, I doubt they'd choose that one when the same amount of money will buy a decent muscle car from 60s / 70s. A KF car collector will take one look at the pictures and then take their $12,000 and spend it on a good one (and be able to find a much better one for the money). It appears that seller has been had and now he's trying to pass it on. If you're looking for ignorant potential buyers, the internet is not the place to do it. Word spreads fast nowadays.

Jeez this guy is really confused--from the description it appears he was looking at a Traveler when he wrote it. Obviously not the car pictured.

Part of the problem stems from the sale of that 1951 Frazer Vagabond at the B-J auction some time ago.  People look at one isolated transaction and now believe anything K-F in any condition is worth a fortune (Darrins, Convertibles, and certain other models are creeping into the range but the sedans have a LONG way to go, in my opinion).  If prices showing up on eBay represent the new pricing levels of K-F cars (especially in this economy) I guess Barbara and I are priced out of the marquee.

Here's another -

It's much nicer than the other two, even if it does have Henry J wheelcovers on it.

Is that really the original interior?

I was wondering the same thing Ben. The ad says it is so it must be.

Of course this one's back too!

It appears to be a '53, and the interior looks like Manhattan but the front bumper is '51 and it still has a '51 Kaiser center grill bar on it. The headlight rims are not '53 Manhattan (or Dragon or Deluxe) and there's no picture of the tail lights so who knows what it really is. It too has a "Hydromatic" in it. I always wonder how much water a "Hydromatic" holds.  I know a "Hydramatic" holds transmission fluid. That's what a lot of them had.
