Is there any know source for the large hood springs?
I have a 49 Kaiser and My spring broke into pieces after closing and opening the hood yesterday it felt weird so I opened it again and it fell apart on me. I bought one off a parts car and fixed it up,my original and this "new" one have failed.

Call the guy on Pennsylvania with all the car parts.

There are several people in the club that may be able to help you. Check the PARTS FOR SALE department in the club's Monthly Newsletter, including Larry Barker.

Hello,
I think you can get them from Dave Hollen.
He lives in Glascow, PA.
His phone number is 814-687-4446.
Email: dch1@psu.edu
He was generous with me and I bought several parts from him.
A really nice guy.
Please let me know if you make contact with him and how he helps you.
Have a great day,
Jerry Wilbeck

If you don't have a parts book for your car so you can ask about K-F #'s with the club vendors, there could be a problem. Anyone with a car should have the following reference materials to help with parts and servicing:
Kaiser-Frazer Shop Manual for your car along with any applicable supplements
Kaiser-Frazer ILLUSTRATED parts book and any supplemental parts lists to same that cover your vehicle

I really appreciate all the help, I have a shop manual and parts book I'll definitely contact some of these folks. But I don't trust these springs the metal is 71 years old and metal fatigue has set in. I'll buy NOS if I have to but I'm wondering if we know of anyone making springs new of the same spec.

I seem to recall having read a thread (or post in a thread) somewhere hereabouts, of a club member who rebuilds hood springs/hinges? I can only infer that he does so using newer fabricated parts, but that is just a guess on my part...
Edited to add...here's the thread:

Not a club member, but a guy who can do the work...info is in the 2nd post.
Hope this helps!
