Title: Darrin shop manual
Post by: 324darrin on March 24, 2020, 02:25:40 PM
Hi folks, what do you recommend as the best shop manual for the Darrin? My focus is primarily the suspension and braking system as the engine and transmission are not stock. I was told that any Kaiser-Fraser shop manual would suffice but I'm thinking that the Henry J manual might be better as it shares more components with the Darrin than the full size cars. Any thoughts? Steve

The darrin shop manual is in fact a collection of all Kaiser-Willys or Willys Motors service bulletins specific to the darrin as weoo as a Willys Mechanics Manual covering the F-head 6 and the Henry J manual for other general information.  I would suggest you contact the Darrin Manager for specifics on which books cover what subjects.

The Darrin manual is quite difficult to find in original form unless it has been reprinted but you might be able to find a copy of it on Jim Betts circle KF website.  As you suspected the Henry J manual will cover most of your chassis needs.

the KF shop manual would be needed for the brakes as they are not HJ as are most other chassis items

Use the 1951 Kaiser shop manual for brake information
Use the 1951 Henry J shop manual for chassis, suspension and transmission information
Use the Willys 685 shop manual for engine related information

There are Darrin specific service bulletins that were produced as well.

Lastly, the owner's manual does have tuneup and other important specifications.
