hey guys how do I check the oil in a 1948 Kaiser and what type oil does it take
thanks

Unscrew the bolt right on top of the steering box and that should be the place to put in the oil. We used to use 90 weight gear oil but if you have a leak in the system you can force grease into the steering box which works very well.

You woll find the factory's recommended lubricant listed in the lubrication chart found in the factory shop manual. If you do not have one, I recommend the blue cover book rather than the green one. The green one came out in early 1948; the blue one came out in 1949 and covers 1947-49 model years as well as the 1950 Kaisers and Frazers since they are mechanically identical to the 1949.
