Title: 1st Best of Show!!
Post by: pjkaiser on August 21, 2020, 11:01:55 PM
Took my Darrin out for its first car show tonight and I got Best of Show!!

People went gaga over the car, some one who said he was a car show judge said it was Pebble Beach quality!!

There is still some work to be done but it was good enough for these shows, things are opening up, finally.

I went to Donut Derelicks yesterday and my cousin came by (he lives 2 blocks away).  He was listening to the people as they came up while I was talking to those who wanted more information on the car and he told me afterwards.    He heard things like "this is the best car here", "what a beautiful car" and a continuation of the theme from the Friday night car show that it is concours quality, etc.    The place was abuzz with "you need to see this car"!!!  This car elicits amazing responses where ever it goes.

I've been a bit overwhelmed by the responses, I sometimes just look at the car and I'm very thankful I actually own one and can drive it.   I looked for a Darrin for almost 40 years before all the forces came together and I was actually able to purchase one in June 2012.   I drove it for three years before deciding to do the restoration.  It has been quite the journey.  There were many times when I wondered if it would ever get done.   There were pieces all over the place in every conceivable place.

I'm looking forward to sharing this car and our club to all who are willing to listen.

I forgot to mention one of the things I did to make my Darrin stand out more is that I made and added a sill plate to the door opening.  I think it adds allot when the door is open.  I also tumbled (using a large rock type tumbler) all the cable housings, oil lines, carb linkages, hood brackets, and latches then had them zinc plated.  They look like chrome and really make the engine compartment "pop".  I have included pictures of under the hood, which I posted earlier this year.
