Title: Headlights
Post by: DaveF on September 12, 2022, 08:45:10 PM
Hello Club Members,
Has anyone installed LED 6-volt headlights?
Any information where to purchase that at a reasonable price?
Thank you, Dave F.

Not exactly "reasonably" priced, but I was informed that as long my wiring was up to snuff, these lights would work:

Read the specs in the ad. I'm guessing the average Kaiser generator doesn't produce 7.3 volts at idle in drive with the lights on.

Hmmm...replaced my generator for an alternator awhile back, so I'm guessing I'd be able to support these headlights...still not sure I'm willing to shell out that much for LED heads though.  :)

I am looking into 6 volt LED brake and signal lights. Will post how they work.

Some LED bulbs are polarity sensitive. You have to check if they will work with positive ground.

Did you order the ones I'd found and suggested, or from another vendor?

Come on man!  Give with the details!!!  :D

To get the desired results from LED type headlights your car should have a 12 vdc electrical system with a medium to heavy-duty output alternator to keep the system charged when on at full load.  Of course, such lights are considered "non Kaiser-Frazer" in terms of judging and points will be deducted.

I have installed 6 volt LED headlights running on a 6 volt electrical system with a 6 volt after market alternator.
Very pleased.

Good Morning all, Dave how much brighter are your LED headlights?
I contacted a firm called LedLight.com. and talked to them about LED signal and brake lights for my 55 Willys Custom. I ordered two 1158 bulbs for the front and two 1154 that had the red bulbs for the rear. They told me that the standard 6 volt flasher my not work properly with the LED bulbs so I ordered one of their special flashers also. They also have positive ground flashers.
I tried to install the Led 1158 bulbs in the front I could not because my sockets are in such bad shape. The LED 1154 bulbs in the rear went in just fine and worked normal with my original flasher.
I was disappointed with the brightness so I returned the red bulbs and received the normal clear ones which I installed. My rear brake and signal lights are maybe 10% brighter now. I am happy with that. I also have a six volt alternator and might consider the LED headlights.

Hello Konrad

A shame we still don't know what brand or vendor you bought your headlights from...you know, something that may help another member make a decision?

Ahh well...glad that whichever ones you bought have worked out for you.

DaveF, can you possibly tell us the specific part number(s) of your LED headlights, and what vendor you purchased them from? Thanks!
