Title: electric power steering conversion kit
Post by: retroguy on November 18, 2022, 10:00:34 AM
Anyone have any info as to a kit to convert manual steering on a '54 Kaiser Manhattan to electric power steering?

The best info I've gleaned to date...late 50s to early 60s (up to about '64/'65) Rambler power steering components can be fairly easily converted to use on our Kaiser beasties.

Thank you. I'd like to find someone who has actually made the conversion and find out what he used.  There are several companies that sell conversion kits but none say they will fit a '54 KM.

You need to talk to KFOCI club member Dale Hammon on the AMC conversion.  He's done several cars over the years.  His information is in the 2021 KFOCI MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY (summer 2022 QUARTERLY issue).

Remember that modifications such as 12-volt ignition, non K-F power steering and power brakes, etc. lower the value of the car compared to original condition and could make it harder to sell later on.
