My new Quarterly and Calander arrived yesterday, they were stuck in the front door!
Thanks to Mike and Karen they did another job. I had a quiet evening planned so I was able the quarterly cover to cover.
-
I didn't receive mine yet Mitch and I think I'm only one zip code away from you. We'll see if the post office will come through for me today!
-
Calendar and Qtrly showed up in the PNW (Zip 98908) yesterday - December 20th. Great new size and format for the calendar. Lots of good stories to read in the Quarterly.
-
Mine arrived yesterday too. Mike always does a great job.
-
Mine arrived today in Texas--good material!
-
Arrived in north Alabama in great shape. Enjoying the quarterly articles and look forward to the calendar each month. Great job!
-
The back page of the calendar says the KF nationals in 2012 will be in Tennessee. Anyone know what city? Hoping for Nashville again as in 1994.
-
Mine arrived in wet SO CA today. Amazing considering the Christmas rush. Two more great publications!! Thanks
-
If you have not received the last QUARTERLY ... maybe you would like to read the first QUARTERLY??

A little ZR outside today as I sit in the toasty warmth of my library and read both the latest Quarterly and those posted by Jim B. Great reading! Merry Christmas!

Well this is the first KFOCI Quarterly we have an original of. The first three were copies I got from Chuck Gibson. I hope you are enjoying the opportunity to read them. This summer we had a brush fire so close to the house that scared us enough we evacuated. That fire made me realize I could not take my KF Paper Collection with me. I have decided to scan as much as possible onto my computer... which I can carry and backup.
As I scan them I don't have to share them with everyone but I will if there is interest out there.
These Quarterlies are large documents ... Can most people download and view them?
Are the documents printable for you?
Long term plan is to build a searchable database over all of the Quarterlies.
I have always looked at the Quarterlies as the KF Encyclopedia. Technically not perfect but lots of great overview information. Ben Walker, Jack Mueller and many other individuals have published lots of great information.
The index would be able to bring up individual pages for discussion and review.

The directory for the Quarterlies is now posted.
As I am scanning I will be validating, but if anyone has any corrections please let me know.

Happy Holidays!!
-
Great stuff, thanks for the scans. I went back and read the inaugural edition of the quarterly. I loved the bit about the '51 Kaiser that was "almost a decade old!"
-
Jim..
Thanks a million for scanning and posting these great Quartery publications. I really enjoy reading the early printed material from the club. This is a great idea and I really appreciate your efforts !!!

Quarterly #5 Volume 1 Number 5
http://circlekf.com/kflit/kfq/kfq005/kfq005.pdf (http://circlekf.com/kflit/kfq/kfq005/kfq005.pdf)
This is a big one. Great articles and the KFOCI Bylaws.
My original is missing page 24 ... not sure if it is a publishing mistake or whether I am missing a page.
If others with this original could check I would like to get a copy of page 24 if it exists.
I never saw this accessory in the Parts List.

Do not feel to bad I have not recieved my New Quarterly and Calander yet. I am in Sun City, AZ

I received my calendar and Quarterly on Monday..... Great job on both publications !!!!
-
I'm in Wisconsin and no Calendar. The next year won't exist if I don't have a calendar!

This is a big one - missing 3 picture pages but a great read
-
Mine (northern WI) just arrived today. As they were sent media rate, there will be significant arrival time differences depending on where you are, as this is a bottom priority category. If there isn't a lot of higher priority stuff in a particular source/destination channel media goes right through. In a case where a route is busier, there can be significant delays.
-
Haven't received anything yet. Tucson, Arizona. Anxiously awaiting the pony express rider.
-
Looks like Arizona is at the end of the mailing list or the Apaches have raided the stage coach again and they have our calenders hanging in their dwellings. Hahahahaha
-
Another Old Quarterly Posted Volume 1 Number 7 ... check it out.

Hope you enjoy reading these.
-
My Quarterly and calendar arrived at 95624 today. Looks real nice.
-
Got mine on the last mail delivery of the year here in the Gr8 White North (Alberta, Canada) where it's about -30* with lots of snow.
Good reading to be had by the fire.
Thanks to all involved for another excellent production!
Happy 2011 everyone.
-
It seems Tom Rankine never ran out of things to write about.
-
Away most of the weekend. But managed to get the 10th Quarterly Scanned and published.
Fid ... Thomas Rankin did do #10 but the Editorship is changing on #11. Stay tuned for fresh information

Check out the "Quarterly Features" Link on the page above.
It will become sort of an index to the Quarterlies' Articles.
Each page is posted as a separate document and Quarterly Features will link you to the first page of each article.
If the article you are researching is multiple pages you may have to change the URL on your address line to goto the next page.
Or just bring up the link to the PDF of the entire quarterly containing the article.
-
Hey Jim...tried opening the links from your table but all end up with a 404 error!
-
Thanks for the heads up! Which "Feature" which Link??? Or is it all of them for you??

Great Stuff !!! thanks for posting
-
Wow...an NOS 51F grille for $20. At that price, I'll take a dozen! Too bad that's a 1962 price...
Great reading...thanks for posting!
-
Glad to read that everyone likes the new Quarterly. I got teased because I had so many stories in there this time! Mike and Karen did a great job, as they always do! Bravo! The new calendar format is fine, particularly if it saves the club some money. Too bad the Quarterly is not in color! Wow!
How about all of you submitting a story or two, with photos, to Mike this year. He always needs items. Old KF stories, car shows and cruise-in stories you've attended, restoration projects, break-down stories, local destinations you drove to with your KF, peoples reactions to your car, etc. It's all good and lets us see what people around the country do with their cars! And most of all, HAVE FUN!

-
I am--It was fun reading the speech "roasting" HK and JF. --The cost of the Frazer is higher because of the expense of using Joe Frazer's family crest--good stuff!
-
It seems like the old quarterlies were a quite a bit more substantial than the current ones--50 pages long!
-
Some of that is probably the cost of postage and printing today.
I cannot fathom doing these in 1960s without a computer.
-
As someone who has been there and done that as far as the Quarterly is concerned I can say modern tech sure makes the job easier. One of the goals I had during my editor tenure was to publish only original material as far as possible and that goal was pretty much achieved. The first issues we did were in the days when word processing programs were nothing like today and we had to rely on dot matrix printers etc. How did we get column output for readability? We had to print the left column as a "page" and then roll the paper back and print the right column. Then we would inspect the output and find the columns did not exactly line up so we would have to do the print again and so on. We finally got an ink jet printer that cost a small fortune and we had to buy extra print modules etc for type faces.
Eventually we worked up to page layout and printing software (Pagemaker) and a laser printer. If you look at the issues we produced you can see visually when the changes occurred.
In looking at Jim's scans I noted some cartoons drawn by Jack Edward who had a go as editor. I have some of these original drawings that were in a bunch of paper stuff I bought from Jack years ago when he was forced by circumstances to dispose of his KF stuff.
-
Been there ... What an understatment. As I count it Ben you edited and published 45 Quarterlies.
If I stay on the path I am on of scanning and posting them oldest first,
It will be awhile before I get to yours.
I think there are 75 more to scan before your record run kicks in.
I would like to issue a Big Heart felt thank you Ben for your years of Quarterly Editing.
The massive amounts of K-F information you shared is appreciated.
Jim

ANOTHER VERY LARGE QTRLY ... BEWARE these are large PDFs
Good reading but please be patient as they download for you.
-
Looking back, I am really glad that someone had the foresight to start the Quarterly publications, and that we have the devoted folks we do to keep the tome alive. The amount of information they contain is well worth the dues paid! Between the Q and the monthly bulletin, one can really see how the club has grown both in numbers and the information available.
A 'hats off' to the editors of all of our club publications. It's a selfless task that can sometimes go unrewarded.
-
I have to agree with everything Joe said....thanks to all !!

Enjoy. Will try and get the rest posted next week.

Jim,
Thanks for all of the hard work you do and helping make these pieces of literature available online for all of us. I know the collection of information you have put together has helped me out in the past and I'm sure everyone is very thankful that you take the time to convert these pieces into pdf format.
Regards,
Chris

It seems to me if the history of the club is not recorded and shared our traditions and legacy will be lost.
As for the technique stuff -- If we expect new members to join us, they need to know the reference material to keep Kaisers and Frazers running is available for them.
Just my opinion.
Travel On,
-
I have said the same thing for years; that's why I did KFOCI HANDBOOK VERSION 4.0 and am working on the first set of updates to it now.
If only the members in the San Francisco area felt the same way as you and I, Jim. They are sitting on a treasure trove of information and either don't give a darn or keep it to themselves.

Quarterly #25 Volume 6 Number 2 - Spring of 1967
Received a large collection of KFOCI Quarterlies this week.
This collection originally came from Bud Flanik of Addy WA. Who back in the 60s got two of cars Henry J Kaiaser had in Hawaii. His Carabela and his Yellow Henry J. In this collection was a group of Quarterlies with Hawaii addresses on them.
The Spring 1967 Quarterly has a Received Stamp on it. Received Apr 28 1967 … H.J.K. Honolulu. I wonder if Henry actually read it?
Up in the upper right corner of the cover there are hand written initials…. HJK. I bet he did read it.
FYI - Henry J Kaiser died in August of 1967.
Pretty interesting piece of history

This is everything in the Quarterly except the two Supercharger Manuals previously Posted.
Not quite sure what the original source of this information was ... maybe a MOTOR Manual.
It looks like the 1955 Chilton. the 1955 Motors manual my dad used, has all K/F stuff in the 700 page range, and different pictures. It was common for Chilton to have the nose pictures for each year until the late 70s for easier ID, and they had that same font still in the 1970s.
