I found a man who makes disk brake kits. I ask hem if he made them for Kaisers, following is his reply:

I only do Studebakers, but, if enough interest would be there, and somebody
sent me a spindle, kingpin wheel size and bearings, I could probably make
some up.
By enough interest, I would need to sell a minimum of 7 complete kits.
Probably in the $700 range. The kits would be complete, with rotors
bearings, seals hoses, pads and calipers.

We (my restoration shop) just purchased a 51 4-dr and have building 4 wheel discs in the build plan. I can update farther as we start on the project, if people are interested. We will also be doing a dual master cylinder of some sort on it too. Any suggestions if someone has already done this?

I have found another man that can help us with disk brakes.
Mr. Roger Thomason at AAJBrakes, he will make brackets and we can buy the parts from a local parts place. He makes the bracket and provides the necessary parts list. He will make the brackets that will work Mopar or GM.

I know Jim Turner as we are both in the Studebaker Drivers Club. I have purchased two disc brake kits from him, one for Avanti and one for a Hawk . Both kits are high quality and work great.

Aloha Green..Wac Wells did this one and then took them off. He said the rotors warped in less than 2,000 miles. I know how to do it using all new parts for about $400, not counting master cyl and valves. It's an eazy do, but I don't advise any one to monkey with brakes unless they understand the resultant disk/drum braking system physics far better than the average restorer type guy!

Several KF club members have swapped in disc brakes on their cars. I suggest a note sent to the bulletin for an insert to the general membership. I'm sure you'll get a response from those with experience.

Our Kaisers and Frazer's and Henry J's had pretty good brakes as designed in their time and I don't think you need to change to discs unless you are constantly running at high speeds and have changed to a more powerful drive train. In sixty years of driving fifties cars the only real improvement that I have noticed needed is an upgrade for cooling issues and not all car have that problem. The '47 K-F's actually went for a smaller radiator as one of the changes for 1948.

Mac Wells tried this on his Blue J and had to take them off.He said the rotors warped every 2,000 miles. He would probably make you a deal on the parts and four warped rotors. I think it calls for more precision than you can expect from brackets made this way.
