What is the factory wheelbase on the henry j ? I'm getting prepped for a new ladderbar rear but the one in the car is not factory either. Just want to have the info to make sure it's right, thanks.

I love to see people working on cars--any make or model--and having no service information (such as a service manual) on hand. How can you fix anything without some kind of service information????

Pretty easy, the last car I built from scratch, frame and all without instructions or manual. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a25/swade41/the17.jpg
I'm sorry I don't own a manual, honestly there isn't much on this car that hasn't been replaced with non stock parts. It does have factory front suspension and body panels.
Thanks for the info though pnw_oldmags I appreciate it. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a25/swade41/Henry%20J/

Nice looking project you've got going there. Thanks for the linkto pics.

I see...you are right. You don't need a shop manual if you are building a dragster or hotrod. I was under the impression this was a restoration rather than a re-design.

Don't get me wrong a manual will come in handy while servicing the front end. As a matter of fact I've asked a friend to look up the front bearing info a few weeks ago for me.
Not owning one these before I'm sure certain things are particular to make and model and will need reviewed. Also it would provide some answers to what certain attachment holes are in the frame. Allthough the factory piece may be missing I'd like to know what went there in the first place.
I'm a rookie to the Henry J but sure plan/hope to do this one justice in the 60's drag style I'm going for. I've wanted one for a long time and recently was able to purchase this one and I'm thrilled about it ! I'm hoping John Q Public will see what a great little car these are once it hits the road/strip.

Henry J.'s seem pretty popular as dragracers, and look pretty good that way in my opinion. Here's a fun website maybe you've seen. http://henryjpage.homestead.com/TheHenryJpage.html

Instaed of starting another topic............
Can someone tell me what the proper length from frame to rear fender lip so I can make some support rods ? These would be the rods going from frame to fender, one each side of the rear tire. thanks

What do you plan for the front brakes?

So JB, you finally got here!

I'll be doing a disc brake swap onto it at some point, right now the front brakes work and are good. I found a "how to" on adding front discs to your stock hubs. http://www.henryjcars.com/hjc40/Disk/diskbrakes.html I also found a comparible chevy bolt pattern rotor to use to switch to 4 3/4 bolt pattern. This way I can use a pair of chevy rims I allready have, that are pretty hard to find.
Depending on how well it stops will determine when that gets done lol

THe Disc conversion you cite will not use a chevy pattern rotor.

Correct, but it will after you drill the hub for a 5 x 4 3/4 chevy bolt pattern. If I had these same rims in a ford 5 X 4 1/2 bolt pattern then I would stick to the conversion the way it was posted. The G.M. rotors are withen a couple thousands on the height and hole diameter in the center of the Concord item.
