Post by: okkaiser on June 15, 2011, 05:13:06 PM
i need a starter for my 51 or i need someone who can rebuild mine.  it drags really slow and drains battery fast.

You can get a starter from any of our parts vendors but check to make sure that your ground straps are clean and tight.  A bad ground will act just like a bad starter.

Also, check the battery cables. Make sure they are the correct 1 gauge cable (modern 12 V systems used 2 gauge so if they were replaced with new style cables, they can cause this problem).  In all my years of Kaiser restoration / driving, I've never had a starter go out so check the cables and connections too.  Best of luck.

Also, should a new started be needed...you will have to identify if the starter is a Delco-Remy or an Auto-Lite and the model # in either case.  Kaisers built after November 20th or so, 1950 having manual or overdrive transmissions could have been equipped on the assembly line with either brand of electrical components.  There is a service bulletin that outlines this as well as serial number start points.
