Title: Great color combination on the early Frazer Manhattans
Post by: Fid on August 08, 2011, 07:24:12 PM
Nice looking car. The hood ornament appears to be after-market but that wouldn't detoure me if'n I was looking for a nice slab-sider.
The engine was likely painted with the "Hirsch" brand paint for KF which was all this color (the light green used on the 1949/50 cars). Looks nice just the same.

I always liked this color combination. I'm guessing that upholstery was really nice when new and not too bad now. It's easy to see why Frazer stood out in '47/'48

There's a Darrin parked next to it in one of the pix. Obviously, the seller has good taste!

That is an interesting hood ornament in that it extends to the back of the hood.  It could be from another 40's make and it's too bad there isn't a better picture of it.  KF never made one like that for sure.  That looks like a pretty authentic Frazer other than the roof colored wheels.

My 48K had that same style hood ornament on it. Apparently, it was a common unit as I've also seen it on two different concurrent Cadillacs. Probably JC Whitney or someone like that.

I've seen that hood ornament on other slabsiders too. Is that the same one on this car? Hard to tell by the pix -

It could be.  I collect after market K-F hood ornaments and have never seen this style advertised for K-F but have seen a few of this type retro fitted to them.  There were lots of interesting accessories made for the K-F cars in the early years.

Yep...that's the same ornament....and the same as I had on my 48. It fit well and looked like it belonged there so I left it alone. By the way, that 48K on ebay looks overpriced by a factor of about two. I really like the dingleberries hanging in the rear window!

That ebay '48 K is almost walking distance from me. I'm not going to look at it for fear the guy may try to sell it to me.

It probably would Gordie and I really think those old slab-siders are great riding cars but if I brought another one home, I may not have a home!

In that case you'd want a Traveler.   :-\
