Can someone Tell me what brand oil filter canister this is? I have a '51 Henry J and my add on oil filter looks very much like your housing. It is Part # KF 212774 it is a Purolator oil filter.

What you have pictured looks like a Purolator filter. Fram marketed their "Framflex" filter system to KF and their canister lids were smooth. Those with ribs are generally attributed to Purolator.
Attached is a pic of a Fram unit that KF used.
**All filter units were dealer sold and installed so there were several varieties**

I agree it looks to be a Purolator housing. Now I need some help with the correct filter element. My local parts house sold me a Wix 51010 and that's not correct.

The filter element for the filter shown (assuming it is the K-F sized Purolator filter holder) should be a P-70FF. Same as AC PF-316, Fram C233PL, FoMoCo R1J, MoPaR 11221689 or 1121694, NAPA 1070 or 1071, Texaco T11 or T11P, Wix 51070 or 51071. This is per the AC-DELCO interchange catalog 42A-100, issued in 1989. The Wix 51010 swaps with the AC number P203. This swaps with the P70FR and was used in the canister type intended for Willys-Overland dealers. Did this come off a Henry J?

It came on my 53 Dragon, but could not say how original it is. I have a 53 Manhattan parts car that I am temporarily using the Fram unit that was on its engine. Its not as nice looking as this on IMHO.

Thanks for this great information. I just purchased one of the WIX on eBay. The AC PF-316 were also on eBay, but they want to much for them. I went to the NAPA website and found the 1071 listed. I checked the OD and height of the 1071 against my PF-70FF and they apprear to be the same. The cost is $7.49, not including shipping and handling. I purchased 4 each online with NAPA. Total cost was just shy or $40.00, which makes each element cost $10.00.

I went to the WIX website and the 51070 is obsolete, but the 51071 is still available. WIX is carried by O'Reilly Auto Parts and the cost is $7.49 each through them.

1951-55 Kaisers were factory equipped with a replacement canister type, the Purolator 1/2...oil lines attach directly to the canister; you replace the whole assembly at each oil change. In May 1950, Kaiser-Frazer put out a memo to dealers advising them to sell Kaiser buyers the replacement element oil filter kit P/N 200255 or the heavy duty type which at the time was P/N 100124. After 3 or 4 oil changes, the price difference between the P-70 FF (in the 200255 version) and type 1/2's would pay for the cost of the filter and installation and start being profitable for the owner.
The Oil Filter kits for the Henry J engines were different sized and were either Purolator or Fram sourced. K-F started bying the Willys-Overland accessory and offering them with their parts labels.
