Title: '48 Kaiser trim rings wanted
Post by: KWZ on February 20, 2012, 08:12:59 PM
I'm looking for a good used set of original beauty rings for my '48 Kaiser.  Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kent

Wow, those look right.  Are they the same as original?

They do look close to the right thing. KF used off the shelf trim rings for the K and F cars thru 1950. Trim rings for the Kaiser differ from those for the Frazer.

The trim rings do not seem too hard to find but also look for 1942-48 Mercury which seem to be the same rings.  The 1947 K-F trim rings are narrower.  The rings that Kanter has illustrated are universal rings used by many auto makers but not by K-F.  Both the K-F rings for 1947 and 1948 have ridges in the design and are not the smooth ones that Kanter offers.

I looked at some period pics, and I agree, the original rings look narrow and "ridged."  That being said, I just ordered four of these babies:

Be sure that you are getting the 15 inch rims as Bob Drake is offering the 14 inch size too for hotrods.

Yep, I specified 15"s.  Thanks for all the guidance on this guys.  I'm putting a '48 Special back on the road that has sat since about '64.  The car is original paint (Speedwing Gray) with factory primer showing through here and there.  It has 34K original miles, and I am the second owner.  I am looking forward to having a KF car that is fun to drive, and that I can set a beer on the hood if I want to.....
