I have a Purilator oil filter attached to my Henry-J engine, but no cartridge inside. Does anyone know the part number for the cartridge? There was a cartridge in it when I parked it 15 years ago. Oh well, it's just another part missing. I do have it running again and it runs like a new engine. It actually only has about 4000 miles on it since being rebuilt (in 1989). Thanks for all your help getting it running again. Bob

My "51 J Deluxe had a purolater P 70 cartridge in it and my local Carquest parts store had a cross reference for it.

The part number Kaiser-Frazer had for the factory oil filter kits (it was an option on Henry J's) came either as a Fram or a Purolator. The Purolator (K-F type) was a P-70-FF which was also used on a number of Chrysler Corporation products in the late 40's and through the 50's. This sounds like what you have.

Just a side note on those filters. They are by-pass filters which means that the oil does not flow through them as part of the cirulation path, it simply channels some of it aside and filters it so it's effectiveness is questionable and minimal at best so if you can't find cartridges don't despair as it really doesn't help that much.

NAPA P/N 1071 lis equal to PF-70FF. They cost is $7.49, not including shipping and handling. I purchased 4 each online with NAPA. Total cost was just shy or $40.00, which makes each element cost $10.00.

I went to the WIX website and the 51070 is obsolete, but the 51071 is still available. These are both equal to the PF-70FF. WIX is carried by O'Reilly Auto Parts and the cost is $7.49 each through them.

These things show up on eBay and tend to go for less; they also go for less quite often at swap meets. The trick is to know what numbers translate into what (AC-316, Shell S-11, etc).

I found the 1071 filter and it fits. Thanks for the help. But, on the way into town to pick it up the overdrive stopped working. Oh well, I'll climb under tomorrow and check it out. I hope it's something minor. If not I'll be back asking for help, again.

I found this oil filter box someone stuffed under the filter canister on my 53, Henry.

Please see my comment under the cross-reference tread. It lists dozens of brand names for the different filter types when it comes to replacement element types (kinds used other than the 1/2 sealed canister).
