Title: Oil Pressure?
Post by: 47trev on March 16, 2009, 07:57:25 PM
Ok when i start the engine i have great oil presure like 15 at idle and 30 when i rev it up but i notice when it gets to up to running temp its going down to about 10 to 15 pounds max i have a new sunpro gauge and sending unit. My stock oil pressure gauge never worked so this is the first time ive been able to read it as it runs.
Is this normal?
Any help would be great
Thanks

I constantly worry about oil pressure. My dash gauge is hopelessly in accurate, so I plugged in a mechanical gauge to it and I run about 40lbs at startup, and when warm it seems to be about  25-30 at idle and around 35-40 at around 2000 rpm.  This engine has around 2000 miles on the re-build. I also got about 18 mpg on a 400 mile trip from Marysville, WA to Yakima, WA last fall.  That was over some pretty serious mountain passes.  I use 10W40 with the zinc additive currently being recommended for our older cars. I use only regular unleaded gas on the "hardened" valve seats and I had another member recommend Red Line Water Wetter or similar products to mix with the usual antifreeze (50-50) to keep the motor cooler in summer.

Ok at least someone else sees the drop and your engine has been rebuilt mine has 65,000 on it or at least thats when the odometer quit working.
I have the gaskets for the oil pump i think im going to take it apart and change them.
Thanks
