Title: lever on the side of the manifold

hey guys the lever on the side of the manifold right under the carb i think its the heat riser or something ,,what opens and closes it i think mine was stuck shut ,,it was real hard to move the lever ,,in which position would it be closed.any help would be appreciated..thanks guys.

When the car cranks up and heat up, the heat from the engine should cause the spring to contract to the point that it opens the door inside the manifold and redirects the engine heat.  Both on the parts car and the driver I have the lever moves back and forth very easy.  If yours does not then I would guess it is stove up.  There are some good pictures on the post "running out of gas".  It probably takes about 15 minutes running at idle for mine to contract enough to open the door.
