Does anyone know a good plating company. I've used one here in Georgia but wanted to see if anyone knows of anyone else. It's expensive I know but would like to get a good deal from a reliable shop. Quality is important.

Talk to the hot rod and biker people in your area to see who they use locally (if anyone) and then ask the place they mention how they do the work.

I had most of the chrome for my 53 Manhattan done last year by Badger Metal Finishing in Milwaukee. Was a able to get an online quote based on emailed pix that changed little once they looked at it in person. Took 6 weeks. Everything can be done by mail. I am very satisfied with the results. Go to their website and get a quote- costs nothing and at least is another data point.

As long as they copper strike in the plating process it should not be bad for application; the bigger problem is the initial grind and subsequent buffing at the different stages.
-
dpledger, thanks for the tip. I am going to send some pic and compare them to the folks in GA. The GA folks did some chrome work on a Ford that I own, but like most they are slow and expensive. I'll let you know what I find out.

Ouch, $4,100 to chrome the seven pieces on the dash. I believe I can do better with the current guy. I'll let you know what the best price I get. I understand what it takes to chrome and understand triple plating and the polishing that is involved. So I'm not looking for cheap stuff that will soon peal off, but I'm not looking to spend 4K on the dash either.
-
4K? Hard to imagine- I got 25 exterior pieces including bumpers for $3200. Something seems amiss, unless those pieces are strange shapes that give them fits.
-
I contacted them and ask them to take another look. They said they misquoted and that it would be about $167 per piece which works out to be about $1,100. Much more reasonable. I am waiting on one more quote before making a decision so I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

I received a quote today from Southern Bumper in Atlanta, GA. They will chrome the front of the car which includes some repair work for $1,200. I have used them before on my 64 Ford and they did good work and it has held up for three years. Because they are close by I can drive the parts up and save on shipping and possible damage. They quoted me $860 on the dash pieces. I have not dissembled the front end yet but when I do I think I will use them.

Gateway Plating in St.Louis straightened my 51 Kaiser front bumper and chromed it for $297. and
did the bumper wings and front bumper guards for $60 each costing $240 total. So the
whole front bumper cost $537.The number is 314-865-1350. I was happy with their work. They
also did my front grille pieces and the rear bumper.

The price they quoted me was for everything from the K and headlight rings to the bottom bumper. thanks for the tip though.
