Has anyone ever switched the carburator from the 4 cylinder to the 6 cylinder. I have a rebuilt 4 cylinder carb and am thinking about using it on a 6 instead of rebuilding the 6 carb. I know the #s are different but they look the same.

Best look again!

When Willys-Overland developed the flathead 6 around the end of World War II, management dictated that the cost of the project be as low as possible. To do that, the engineers tried to adapt everything it could off the 4 cylinder motor. Because of fuel volume requirements for the 2 extra cylinders & other considerations, a different carb was specified. If you try the 4 cylinder carb on the 6 cylinder engine, expect varying degrees of problems.

It's true, in innards are different on the carb for the 4 and it will not work well. You need the Carter YF833 for the six.
