Title: Fan operation in manhattan
Post by: jamestyler520 on May 15, 2014, 01:30:08 AM
When the car ignition is turned on should the fan turn on as well?

I had some work done on the car and I did not remember hearing the fan come on before. I did have to install an electric fuel pump which had a vibrating notice.

The fan noise seemed to be coming from the passenger side dash area.  The fan in the air conditioner is not turned on.

Assuming you're referencing the 48 Frazer in your bio pic, Frazers were equipped with two fans...one for the heater itself that is controlled by a pull-out knob on the lower dash, and another for the defroster. That one is controlled by a chrome knob at the top of the dash. Each can be operated independently of the other and only run with the key in either the 'accessory' or 'on' positions. Perhaps one of them is what you were hearing.

KF did not use an electrically controlled engine fan. If there's one on your car then it was added later in life. The same would hold true for the fuel pump.

The heater knob is not out. Therefore it may be the other option. I don't recall what that looks like right now.  I will go and check it now.

You were correct. The fan that I was hearing was the defroster fan. I was told that the knobs on top were for the windshield wipers which could be operated independently. But since they weren't operating I never tried turning them. Plus car had been in the shop for repairs longer Thani have had it to drive or explore.

Now if I could only get my overdrive fixed where I don't have to shut the car off to have it kick out of overdrive.
