Title: Kaiser Dragon at a concours show
Post by: rlahammer on June 02, 2014, 06:43:30 AM
Well I took the plunge and have tried to pass on the good word about kaisers and how really great these cars can be. I took my Dragon to a car show (well it was invited). I have to say it probably gathered the second most attention of any car at the show and there was many million dollar cars. It was a show they did not allow me to open the trunk but a few people asked so i showed the attached photo. What was so much fun is that many old timers attended and had never seen a Dragon. Created quite a buzz!

I had a real Superbird right next to it and the attention given to the Dragon was WELL beyond the Superbird. Love the Kaisers!

What's with the restriction on the trunk?

Very nice.  Looks like a twin to my Dragon.  I don't see many green ones.

I guess at true Concours type shows you cant open hoods or trunks. It is all about the car as seen at the dealership in the year produced. A guy showed up in a very nice original car that had rims from a couple years ahead of the car, well he was not allowed to show his car.

Kind of snooty but it was fun to see so many original cars back to 1900.

Glad to see people taking their KF cars to car shows. I have been taking mine to shows for 6 years and it is more fun then you can imagine. I get more people looking at my Darrins then when I take any of my other cars. It is allways non stop people and conversations. Everyone should take their cars to car shows they don't have to be perfect. Just take them I promise you will enjoy it.

We took our '51 to a Car Show at the Tulalip Resort Casino in August of 2012, and was awarded this nice trophy.  She's a 50 footer (so is it's owner...).  We love showing the car.  The trophies, when we are given one, are just a nice little bonus!

I got it from a guy in Washington County (29), yes.  He got it from somewhere in Western Nebraska.

I had the pleasure of hitching a ride in that 51K at the convention. It was comfortable, quiet, and nice...for a change...to ride in, rather than drive a Kaiser! Thanks Les!

An interesting point you make about the Superbird, and folks not gravitating to it.  Our eyes like to see new stuff.  You ever notice how a new car might stick out for awhile, on roads and then they are seen so much they blend into the background.

This is the same phenomenon at car shows.  How many Camaros, Mustangs, Tri Five Chevys and yes, even Superbirds, most over restored can a person take?

Meanwhile here you come with not only a 53 Kaiser but a Dragon that comes with a story (that most of us know, the story of the 53 Dragons).  Must have been a fun day to be the 'rock star' of a car show.

Concours D'Elegance  show car rules are different than a regular show car rules. The quality of the vehicle has to be superb and exceptional. The vehicle should also have some importance or rarity. Generally the hoods, doors, and trunks stay closed for display, but a judge can and often does ask to see something like the quality in the trunk or underhood. The cars are generally shown for photographic purposes with everything closed. I've been invited to 5 Concours D'Elegance shows and been awarded 4 firsts and a second. I'd like to see more Kaisers and Frazers at Concours shows, but it doesn't happen often.

There's a cruise-in near me that routinely draws 750 or more cars. Every week has a different theme and one of them is Corvette night. I would wait until the lot was better than half full of 'Vettes and pull in with my Darrin. Needless to say, everyone walked away from the Corvettes and stood..usually scratching their heads...staring at the Darrin. I would purposely stand just far enough away so that no one knew I owned it...just to see the looks on their faces. Better yet were the faces of the Vette owners parked next to my car. Priceless!

The moral of the story, take your Kaiser to a show and you'll stop 'em dead in their tracks!
