Title: Signs?
Post by: Classic on July 04, 2014, 06:54:20 PM
Why are there so many Kaiser Frazer Service signs in existence? It seems like they're fairly common in comparison to othe contemporary independents.

The original five foot in diameter signs are not common but most of the dealers bought one for their dealership.  They tended to get chipped and a really nice one is hard to find and they are quite pricey.  There are many varieties of reproductions from one foot diameter to around two feet.  Those are common and are on eBay everyday.  The neon signs were an option for the dealers to buy and not very many bought one.  They are very desirable to have and very few are available and they sell from $2,000 to around @6,000.  Most of the reproductions are well done and they are a nice addition to your garage wall art.

I don't want to invest in an original that is worth as much as my car, but I would love to have a 25" repro for the garage. Unfortunately they run around $100. Almost any other 25" repro  sign can be found at our local flea market in mass quantities for $30.

I did not know the 25" ones were 2 1/2 times the price of a "regular" one.  When I am looking at my old car shows on Velocity Channel, such as Wayne Crini's "Chasing Classic Cars" I often see the original large size KF signs in collections they are in.

Hard to believe but true, here's an example of a similar size Chevrolet Service sign on Ebay for $22.95 plus shipping. This is what they should cost. Maybe the club could have the mfr. of these  make a batch of Kaiser signs and make them available at minimal markup?

Here is one made by one of our members in Montana who is a master at creating signs.  It even has some small chips where rust has formed, making it appear original, though if you place it next to an original, you would see that it is about 3/4 the size of an original.  I think it's great!
