Title: 1951 Kaiser Starter Motor Needed. (Manual Transmission)
Post by: Cortes121 on July 07, 2014, 07:14:01 PM
Hello everyone,

I seem to have run into a snag trying to get my Kaiser going again, and it is the starter. I had the unit rebuilt but the shop seems to have gotten the Bendix drive re installed incorrectly. I would like to purchase a spare starter to have on hand in case they cannot fix my original unit.

I need one that fits a manual transmission setup though.

Anyone have one or know somebody who does? Please feel free to message me here.
Thank you.

The 4 cylinder and 226 starters are different and do not interchange. And, starters for the hydramatic and manual transmission 226 equipped cars differ from each other as well.

Thank you for the offer Aeroj, but alas it appears I can't use that starter.

I'm still looking if anybody has got anything!

Interesting.  I have a 1951 Kaiser with a problem with the original starter motor.  I had the usual guts replaced and the bendix, but it still would not turn the motor fast, nor would the bendix disengage properly.  Same problems after three rebuilds.  The thing tested fine on the bench, but would not work correctly in the car!  Only after I got and installed a different starter could I drive again.
