Mine is 6 &11/16" across the bottom of the lid. so I guess it would be 6 & 3/4".

Someone along the way discarded the original air cleaner on my Darrin. Does anyone know of someone with an extra original air cleaner that they would be willing to sell?

Yes it is.......I purchased the car from my father estate last year.

I agree......you did a nice job. This maybe the route I end up going if I am unable to find a used original one.
