Title: Brakes locking up in reverse
Post by: 51Deluxe on April 18, 2015, 07:51:21 PM
Backed the '51 out of the garage this morning, stepped on the brakes and they locked up solid. Still work fine going forward, but put in reverse and you can feel the locked wheel, even without stepping on the brake. Anyone run into this before?

Once I had a bonded lining come off the shoe and behave the same way- lock in reverse, OK going forward

Either a lining has fallen off the shoe or a brake spring came loose allowing the shoe to bind. You'll need to pull the drum to investigate. If this happened on my car it would, of course, be one of the rear wheels...!

Ah! Lining falling off would explain it. Probably can be attributed to the poor quality of many of today's auto parts. I'll pull the wheel in a day or two and see. Hope it's on the right side, because it's back in the garage now, the left wheel is near the wall, and it's not coming back out in reverse without a fight.

Check your brake fluid you probably have wheel cylinder leaking.
