Title: Windshield Trim
Post by: vettelang on July 09, 2015, 08:05:12 PM
I have the trim around my windshield / backglass removed from my Aero. What are the tricks to reinstalling it into seals? The glass has not been removed.  Thanks for the help!

If You could post a picture ? Put the seal on the Glass. Then put the trim on the seal. Then they reinstall the same with or without the trim back on the vehicle .

I don't have a good picture, but the trim is stainless strips that go into slots in the rubber weatherstrip around the windshield perimeter. A nice application for a special tool!!!

I've seen glass shops use soapy water to make the stainless slide in easier, but the best and safest way is to remove the glass and weatherstrip, keep the w/strip attached to the glass, insert the stainless into the slots in the w/strip, reinstall the entire assembly into the car. I broke the last NOS tinted windshield because I tried to force the stainless into the slots while the windshield was still in the car.

Aeroman ,  Yes Your correct , You don't put trim last. It is easy to slip & crack the Glass. My last line was confusing. Some have trim & some don't. Same process for the Glass install . Also Correct on soap when pulling the string out. Seal falls into place better.

My fear is breaking the windshields taking them out - they are so brittle and I do not have replacement weatherstrips.

Last I knew, Rudy Phillips had weatherstrips, but they may have been sold to Duane Hayes.

I bought new front & rear rubber a couple years ago from Duane that had the grooves for stainless trim
