Title: Oil filter
Post by: joncon on September 16, 2015, 01:34:05 PM
Getting ready to change the oil in my Henry J 6cyl. It has never had a filter on it. I have a NOS oil filter kit with all the lines, mount, bolts, instructions, etc. Should I install , or keep driving it without a filter.
Any thoughts.

The filter is a partial flow unit - meaning only a small portion of the circulated oil is sent thru the filter. Keep the oil full, change it regularly and use a good brand name and the engine will be just fine without a filter.

Sell it to someone else.

Agreed - the filter has no value and only provides  more points to leak and fail. Change the oil every 1000 miles or less (I change mine every spring regardless) and that engine will run forever.  I have never had a filter on any of my Js and never had any problems.  I think your car had a filter on it when my dad got and the first thing we did was remove it. They are a pain and add no practical value.

I don't think I'll install it, just keep it with the car for display. I added photos to the first posting.
