Title: Installing a new shifting knob
Post by: shel on November 06, 2015, 11:23:32 AM
Does anyone have any words of wisdom (experience) in pushing a new shifting knob onto the shifting arm of a Henry J? It obviously is meant to be a tight fit, but I don't want to explode the knob trying to push it on.

Put it in Hot water, then slide it on.

I will add - be sure you clean all the old glue/remnants etc. out of the grooves on the lever.
Then lube it with Gojo or some other non-residual lubricant to aid in pressing the new one on. Take your time, be patient and it will go on and stay and you'll be very happy with it.
 - patience wins the day

Thanks, guys, for the info. Nothing like hearing from those who have "been there" and "done that".
