Title: im looking for (W) for my grill on this 53 willys areo falcon
Post by: nikkelectrik on November 13, 2015, 09:34:27 PM
also I'd like to find the bar that activates the horn  on the  steering wheel to be honest I'm new to these cars   And have been told changing it to a 12v system would be more efficient being how its my daily driver. Is this true if so what's the best way to go about it ? Please help me keep this sweet old aero car on the road

The horn ring was an option on the Aero Falcon in 1953; the horn button itself should work it if the contacts are ok.

Check your Willys-Overland or Willys Motors Mechanics Manual for more information on this.

The horn rings can be hard to find, they're prone to breakage where the ring meets the "cross bars". If you've got a horn on your radiator bracket, you've probably got the remains of the ring under your cross bar.

I've seen half ring (bottom only) & full ring styles.

The grill "W" turns up fairly regularly on ebay, half the time at ridiculous starting prices so be patient.

When my Aero was a daily driver in the 70's, I had zero issues with the 6v system, even in sub zero midwest temps. I'm rebuilding the car and intend to keep it 6v.
Some guys do like to go with 12v and alternators although I don't know if anyone here has done that with an Aero.

Mark thank you gman I recently got my Willy's falcon and she's almost all there minus some small things. I do wish to keep it a 6v myself I just have a family of hotrodders saying swich it. But I'm a restore kinda guy

Can you help me clear up this confusion on my falcon? Are these Positive ground carS?

The Willys Service Standards book for 1952-54 states that it is 6 volts negative ground.

All Willys Aeros, 1952 to 1955 are 6 volt negative ground.

To appease the hot rodders you can put on a Delco alternator and have a 6 volt regulator in place of the 12 volt inside. You get the reliability of an alternator and no need to change all the bulbs, gages, etc.
