Title: Fuel Tank insulator strips.
Post by: Barnum on March 06, 2016, 07:58:35 PM: Just had the fuel tank for my Aero redone. Any suggestions on where to find fuel tank insulator kit? Local auto parts stores don't even show any kind of listing.

The tank originally had felt type strips on top of the tank as well as for the tank straps.I have found some kits on line for Jeep and older Chevy that would fit the bill. I had hoped to be able to get some locally. Had hoped not to have to wait to install the tank.

Post by: Terry T on March 10, 2016, 09:29:50 PM: Most radiator repair shops, at least in my area, redo gas tanks for a very reasonable fee. Much less than $300, even if you tell them it's for a Darrin! or a Henry J. They use the professional versions of the proper chemicals.

I haven't gotten to that project yet, got three tanks currently holding gas (varnish) that looks like coffee. It looks like they've got quite a dealer network, there's a shop about 45 minutes away if i need one.
There used to be new tanks listed on mercado but they weren't cheap and the shipping would've been brutal.

Post by: Barnum on March 10, 2016, 09:41:34 PM: This tank had 15 gals of fuel in it that was 20 years old and was in very bad shape, as far as pin holes etc. Also needed a new pick up tube.In my case the nearest radiator shop was 100 mi from here....and they wouldn't do it..let alone warranty it...so all in all I'm fine with the cost. To find a used tank and then still have to have had it done would of cost more I'm sure.
