Title: Henry radio
Post by: Fid on March 23, 2016, 05:26:15 PM
This one is complete with pretty decent knobs and buttons - very hard to find. I just wonder why the ends of the chrome face plate have been shaved off?  Anyone else notice that?  They've been beveled.  Anyway, it's complete so it should be a good seller.  If someone on here wins it, I can fix it for you.

I just looked at the pictures of this again. Not only have the edges of the face plate been trimmed off, the knobs have been glued on (visible when you hover over it in the ad). Good luck getting them off intact. There also appears to be glue around the push buttons- look closely at the picture below. My guess is the corners of the face plate were trimmed off so the mounting bolts could be removed without taking the knobs (which have been glued on) off.  It may be a useable/fixable unit but these are things a prospective buyer should be aware of.

Thanks Fid!  I hope that the two bidders read your important information and are not disappointed when they receive it.

In the second photo, is the ashtray supposed to be chrome or painted the same color as steering column?  Mine is painted the same as the steering column.

It was always my understanding ( I don't recall what it was based on) that the four cylinder cars had the painted ash tray and the deluxe models had the chrome ones.  I have no factory info to back this up.
Every NOS HJ ash tray accessory part I ever found had a chrome face so I believe the ones purchased and added to the cars were chrome as it was not practical for dealers to stock one of each possible color.

Most I see are chrome. The one pictured is what was originally in my '53 Corsair Deluxe.  My '52 Vagabond, which was originally a 4 cylinder, also has a chrome one but I have no idea if it was in the car originally or added later.  I definitely see more chrome ones than painted.

Now I am thinking I need to chrome mine next time I take stuff to chromer.  Mine is  a 52 Deluxe 6 cyl and ashtray was painted when I got it.  I repainted it when I did the interior column paint.  Hmmmm

Interesting comments gentlemen. As mentioned, I have seen no documentation on this. Most I've seen are chrome, that's all I can say for sure then.
