I would appreciate any help in trying to get the dash lights to work consistently.
There appears to be a dead zone in the rheostat dimmer--works when it wants to.
Can it be jumped/shorted so that the dash lights are on all the time?

Sometimes polishing will fix this problem-get some very fine abrasive sheet between the arm and the coil and clean them up. If the coil is broken, this will not work. You can tap into the point on the coil corresponding to brightness you want, and then short this. Also could by pass the coil and substitute a fixed resister corresponding to the brightness you want.

On My 53 Dragon I have one to do swap out to get down the Road.
Later I break it down, clean, & then light lube like W D - 40.
In electronics , Broadcast Transmitters, & or Radio - TV repair, We had a lot of good Products to do this. That was the Day We had manual tuners & control pots We had to renew.
It depends on Your climate as to how often.
