Darrin Forum / Re: Darrin carburetors
« on: October 26, 2014, 08:19:53 PM »
Jake,  do you have a picture of the base of the carburator showing the correct number?  It seems all of the yf  carburetors look the same and the majority are for 4 cylinder engines.

The trap we fall into is putting the wrong carburator on the Darrin with the incorrect rebuild kit.

Having the incorrect fuel valve will cause flooding and foul plugs.

Thanks, Richard

From my latest research...

If you have a Darrin...  the number on the base of the carburator should  be yf 2071. It is a Carter for 1953. Other Hurricane F head sixes are yf 924 and Yf 937. All of the other are for 4 cylinder F heads etc.

Seems like Solex only make a carburator for the 4 cylinder F head. I could be wrong on that.

Please put you 2 cents in if my research is flawed.

Thanks.

This is photo had written on it "Oct 13 1968-All Darrin Meet-San Luis Obispo,  CA" mixed in with my PNW Historian stuff.  I count 13 Darrins and some other KF cars in the distance and behind the Darrins.

It was a rainy day when I took that picture. My son and I drove down from Pleasant Hill and Don Norske drove down from San Francisco. Don had one of the few hardtop. We all loved Solvang. In those days many of the Darrins had  body cracks and many proposed just piling on the enamel paint.

Darrin Forum / Re: REAR SPRING SWEAKS
« on: August 22, 2012, 05:57:47 PM »
Hi, I pulled mine and had them re arced. Great result because the rear sag is gone and Darrin 104 sits like a new car.

Cost 200.00 ...but they operate and look new.

We did not make sure each bolt went back into it previous location...we paid dearly for that goof. If u arc them make sure to return each part into its former location.

104`s butt started to sag. We pulled the springs. Special note: Mark each nut and bolt location. This is very important because they may look the same but, they are not.

Time has made each piece slightly different.

The company that re arked the springs  had the spec sheets on how much to bend the springs to their original specs.

Cost was $65.00 for both springs. They even painted them.

So, if someone tells you how high your bumpers should be...ask them when was the last time they had their rear springs re arked-

Aloha, rj
