Kaiser Forum / Re: Model and year
« on: March 24, 2023, 10:01:09 AM »
Joe Frazer (a non-member of the KFOCI these days) is working off c.1975 estimates based on the highest known serial numbers of cars reported to the Club Registry.  I work off the factory's monthly production counts.

There were 2 Frazer Manhattan types in the 1949-60 combined model year run.  A total of 9,669 Frazer Manhattan Sedans and 82 Frazer Manhattan Convertibles were built, all of them 4-door versions.  The final Manhattan produced came off the line in January 1950, the only actual month of production during the 1950 model year and was the only one built that month.  During the week of November 3,1949 all new, untitled, unsold and undriven 1949 model year Kaisers and Frazers in dealer, distributor, or factory storage lots received 1950 model year serial numbers to keep them "fresh".  Kaisers and Frazers with K49/F49 prefix serial numbers should be 1949 model year cars sold retail prior to November 3, 1949 by dealers.  Cars sold after that point had the 1950 door frame serial number tags but may have had the 1949 firewall body code number tags still on them.

1949 Frazer Manhattan production for retail sale started with 580 units in October 1949 with 4-door sedans.  Convertibles were built during the months of January-September 1949 with mostly single digit (there were some double digit months) totals for each month.

Works fine for me.  The materials listed at present covers sections 001 and 002 of KFOCI HANDBOOK Version 5.0 (with modifications to 7.0).  Keep in mind there are close to 40 sections in the complete version and Chris is posting them in sections...he has the complete update to 7.0.  contact Chris for more info...he's Webmaster.

Frazer Forum / 1947 FRAZER PRODUCTION STATISTICS PROVE IT!
« on: January 17, 2023, 07:58:47 PM »
Fans and owners of 1947 Frazer and Frazer Manhattan automobiles may not believe this bit of trivia but it is not only confirmed by production statistics printed in issues of AUTOMOTIVE NEWS magazine as well as factory monthly numbers:

AUTOMOTIVE NEWS reported that production information they had showed for the period 1/1/47 to 5/31/47, total production of Frazers (Standard and Manhattan types, total) was higher than production of Kaisers for the same period, 18,856 to 18,062.  By the end of June 1947, Kaiser-Frazer's monthly production counts (which at times were more accurate than the weekly magazine's numbers) showed a total of 30,774 Frazers and 30,183 Kaisers were built since production for dealer/distributor sales began in May, 1946.

Cliff Nardeen was the Kaiser-Willys distributor for Northern Wisconsin, signing on during the summer of 1953.  Less than 10 (if that many) of the special plates were made to be used for special events showing at auto shows, etc.

While month-by-month production counts are not known at present, the car may well be the oldest surviving Kaiser-Darrin sports car known to exist.  Phil should be able to provide you with more information on this.

This is something that Lowell Fideler might be able to help you with.  You can look up his e-mail address and phone number in the membership roster you got in your new member packet.

General Discussion / MORE INFORMATION ON HANDBOOK POSTINGS
« on: December 29, 2022, 11:12:35 AM »
I've just checked the section of the CURRENT website for the club that has members-only information.  The individual items have been expanded to include all of what is current version of Section 001 and 002.  Bottom line is that a lot of information was added this week.  KFOCI members should check the items out; it may be helpful to them.

I just tried it about a half-hour before sending this.  Works OK for me now.

If you want to renew the membership, the phone number for the club secretary, as printed each month in the KFOCI MONTHLY BULLETIN and issue of the QUARTERLY is still 253-252-7073.  The club website is working fine as far as I know.

Darrin Forum / Re: Windshield washer nozzle
« on: December 15, 2022, 11:04:03 AM »
According to the Kaiser-Willys Sales Corporation Trade Letters I have in hand on the ordering information for the Darrin, windshield washer was not a factory-installed accessory.  According to the Kaiser-Darrin parts book from the factory issued May 1954, only the following items were available as dealer installed accessories for the car:

Heater/Air Conditioner
Wire Wheels
Safety Belt
Exhaust Deflector

Why don't you ask the Darrin Registry Manager or Lee Abrams about this?

If you are a club member, there are some resources available.  If you are not a member of the KFOCI I sincerely recommend you join.

Kaiser Forum / Re: electric power steering conversion kit

Remember that modifications such as 12-volt ignition, non K-F power steering and power brakes, etc. lower the value of the car compared to original condition and could make it harder to sell later on.

You need to talk to KFOCI club member Dale Hammon on the AMC conversion.  He's done several cars over the years.  His information is in the 2021 KFOCI MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY (summer 2022 QUARTERLY issue).

Manufacturing Fund Forum / PLASTIC KNOBS FOR 1951-54 HENRY J AND ALLSTATE
« on: November 06, 2022, 11:24:44 AM »
Is there any interest in having the plastic knobs with the letters on them (L, H, C, V) and the radio knobs (the actual knob and the larger piece that sits under the big knobs) for the Henry J and Allstate (they are same thing)?  The originals are bakelite plastic and will get brittle and crack over time if cars are left outside.  Reproductions could be made to same color as the original but something a bit friendlier in terms of effects of heat/cold and age.

I'm currently working on scanning issues of AUTOMOTIVE NEWS magazine, a trade paper aimed at automobile dealers (mainly new car dealers) that's been around since the 1920's.  The years I am interested run from 1940 to 1957 and so far I've finished 1945, 1941 and currently working on 1942.  The publication is covering events at Kaiser-Frazer as well as the comings and goings of various K-F and Willys dealers that submitted items for the publication.  Drawback is that the source is material put on microfilm so pictures (at least on the "original") are not good quality.  I will work on that once the issues (it came out weekly and usually 30-40 pages an issue, sometimes as many as 72 pages) get put into the computer.

A lot of good historical information can be found in these things.   You can also find the link to the archive on CIRCLEKF.COM.

Without knowing the numbers off the car (not listed in the ad) how can anyone know who previously owned it???  Also, historical information given about the car contains incorrect information on general K-F history so I have to wonder about any description on condition.  HEMMINGS and the dealer selling the car both claim info is supplied by car owner and they are not responsible for accuracy, etc.  This is correct as they can only go by what the actual selling party tells them.

Assuming you are a KFOCI club member, check your 2022 roster (was mailed to all members getting publications in June of this year) and talk to members listed in the Elkhart area to see what they know of the car and if they would go with you to help check it out.
