Parts For Sale & Wanted / WTB Front shock mounts
« on: November 03, 2017, 01:22:12 AM »
Hi all,

I need a pair of bottom shock absorber mounts for the
front of my 1953 Kaiser Manhattan.

I'm in Australia so there are none here, but I am
willing to pay for postage.

Hope someone can help.

Cheers,
Mal.

Kaiser Forum / Oldsmobile 303 Conversion
« on: May 05, 2017, 10:07:50 AM »
Hi,

I have found an 1953 Oldsmobile 303 engine and hydramatic for sale and from checking photos
and measurements supplied by the owner it appears that it would be a relatively straight forward conversion
for my 1953 Kaiser Manhattan.

The shifter linkages on the column may be close to the rocker cover and the sump/oil pan may need
some massaging to clear the steering and the crossmember would need to be drilled for the front engine mount,
but that all seems relatively minor.

Has anybody on this forum actually done this conversion and can tell me what I'm missing, because it can't be
as straight forward as that or everybody would do it.

I like the idea of a period engine upgrade and the Olds engine seems a logical swap.

I have done many miles in my Manhattan and love her but feel a bit more power/torque would be great.

A disc brake upgrade would also be done to help with stopping.

All constructive comments welcome.

Cheers,
Mal.

Hi everyone,

Good news.

Bob and Charlotte Dayton have come to my rescue with a re-machined drum.

Sent and received and now installed..... And back on the road.

Thanks Bob and Charlotte and the Kaiser Owners community for the help.

The axle seams OK. I swapped drums over to compare and the axle from the bad side mates up well with the good drum.

Also the bad drum still sits poorly on the good side's axle.

It appears that only the drum is damaged.

Thanks for the advice.

Parts For Sale & Wanted / Kaiser Brake Drums
« on: April 12, 2017, 11:05:34 PM »

Hi Everyone,

Rear brakes have been making a scraping noise on my 1953 Kaiser and on investigation found a very worn drum key-way and taper.

The brake drum goes on too far and fouls the backing plate and brake shoes.

Also because of the very worn key-way there is way too much free rotation of the drum.

It is beyond an easy repair so I need a replacement brake drum.

If anyone has a good drum they would like to sell and post to Australia I would be a happy man again.

Obviously I would cover all costs by way of bank transfer or paypal.

Thanks in advance,

Mal.

Parts For Sale & Wanted / Ignition switch for '53 Kaiser Manhattan
« on: January 25, 2016, 05:31:07 PM »
Hi,

I need an ignition switch to suit my 1953 Manhattan,

NOS is my preference but good used is OK.

There is one to suit a 1951 Kaiser on EBay but I can't tell from the photo whether
it has 4 posts/terminals on the back as that is what I need.

Can anyone tell me if this will fit as I don't want to get the wrong one  because it works
out to be quite expensive with post to Australia and the current poor exchange rate.

Thanks,
Mal.

Kaiser Forum / Re: 7" wheel width

Hi Tom

I have put 8" Cragar smoothies on my '53.

These fit my Customline that has been disc braked so should fit around your discs.

I think from memory they are 4" rear spacings but in any case were not special order.

The fronts have 225-75's and the rears 235-75's.

There is a tiny bit of rubbing at full lock when going over a hump etc. but I have lowered mine about 3"

The rears don't rub at all.

I have been following your brake upgrade posts with interest as I will be doing a similar upgrade next winter.

Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd give you all an update on my '53 Manhattan.

As you can see from the previous posts she used to be Steve Lloyds and his fathers before him.

Steve was a great guy to meet and more than honest, both in his description of the car and
in all my dealings with him.

Not long after I got her home to Australia I bought a new home and with the move and all
she was put on the back burner for a while.

I have put her on the road about 6 months ago after renewing all the suspension and brakes,
resealing the fuel tank, reconditioning the carby, and in the last couple of months upgrading
the full interior. Not to original but to our liking with a nod to the original design.

We love it even more now and with summer coming up over here we plan on driving the wheels
off it in the next 6 months.

Here are a couple of pics to show you one of the few Kaisers in Australia.

Kaiser Forum / Fuel Pump
« on: August 29, 2015, 01:27:07 AM »

I need a new fuel pump for my 1953 Kaiser Manhattan.

I have electric wipers so I don't need a vacuum pump type.

Does the Airtex AFP 572 fit and do the earlier ones off '40's Kaisers fit.

All I seem to be able to get confirmed to fit is the dual pumps.

Thanks,
Mal.

Have you received your brake upgrade kit?

If not, did they tell you when "in progress" becomes in production.

I'm very interested in upgrading my brakes as well and any information would be appreciated.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Interior Trim Screw Kits
« on: April 21, 2015, 10:38:40 PM »
Thanks for the reply.

Sorry, forgot to mention I'm located in Australia. So I can't check out your local hardware stores.

As there seem to be some non standard screws I was hoping someone did a comprehensive kit
instead of me replacing the wrong screws with new wrong screws.

I saw the E-Bay listing but again this is only for one size screw.

I'll just have to go to the local store with a pocket full of old screws and see what they have.

Thanks,
Mal.

Kaiser Forum / Interior Trim Screw Kits

Hi,

Does anyone do kits with all the screws etc. for the interior trim pieces.

I'm re-doing the interior of my 1953 Manhattan and the old screws are rusty
and I suspect that some are not the original type.

It would be great to be able to replace them in one easy step.

Thanks,
Mal.
