Frazer Forum / Need upper suspension inner shaft grease seals
« on: October 20, 2016, 01:58:36 PM »
Does anyone know where to buy these grease seals without having to purchase the shaft, bushings and grease fittings as well?  It seems that this suspension system/parts would be common to a number of cars.  Thanks for any help you can provide.  Also have a broken coil spring on the passenger's side.  Were these coil springs really a different stiffness for each side and how important would it be to keep that design?

General Discussion / Car Auction Results in St. Henry, Ohio
« on: May 02, 2015, 03:40:44 PM »
Just attended this auction that had a 1949 Kaiser Standard as one of the cars to be auctioned.  The car ran well , the body was in good condition with some damage to the rear bumper and valance.  The interior was pretty nice but the front seat on the driver's side had one tear near the middle and was badly worn and thread bare on the edge.  The paint and chrome were presentable.  They stated the master cylinder probably needs to be rebuilt or replaced as the pedal went to the floor.  The car sold for $4850.00 plus, I believe, a 10% buyers fee.  This, in my opinion, was about what the car should sell for.

Cars For Sale & Wanted / Re: What would you pay????

This is a $500.00 car at best.  To get this car "road ready" will cost at least $1500.00.  If the engine turns out bad then you are looking at another $3000.00 to $3500.00 just for the rebuild.  I have one similar to this one and it needs new wiring almost everywhere, the whole brake system rebuilt, new or used tires.  Also needs the generator and starter rebuilt, many switches are "stuck", horns don't work, parking, brake and back-up light housings are all rusted so bulbs can't be easily removed.  Most of the weather stripping is hard and worn out and the windshield leaks due to worn gasket.  Either the seller doesn't know all that's wrong with the car or knows and doesn't want to deal with it himself.  Ten years sitting around inside or outside is not good for any car.  Body work and paint would cost at least another $3000.00.  This is why it is better to buy one that someone else has spent the money restoring or bring back to life.  I'm one of the carzy ones.

Cars For Sale & Wanted / Re: KF at auctions
« on: April 19, 2015, 09:43:07 AM »
I'm planning on going to this auction.  It will be interesting to see if Karl has a reserve on all the cars he has for sale.  He has had the Kaiser for about 10 years; nice car but over priced.  They claim it has sold before but returned (traded) for other cars.  It should sell for about $5000.00 if Karl will let it go for that amount.

Frazer Forum / Re: Engine Seized

Still in the process of dismantling the front of this 1947 Frazer Manhattan for the engine swap.  After removing the generator, oil filter canister and battery support I noticed what appears, to me, to be a wire running from one of the harnesses into the bottom of the steering gear box.  I'm I crazy or does this do something?  I can see no reference to this wire on the wiring diagram.  There are also, what look like, two relays for the horns but the wiring diagram only shows one.  In fact there are a number of wires in the engine compartment that don't show up on the wiring diagrams.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I believe that is the door sheet metal with the molding removed.

Frazer Forum / Re: Mamual Transmission Issues??????
« on: March 17, 2015, 08:25:04 PM »
As I mentioned before, the output shaft of the transmission turns counter clockwise in all three gears but not clockwise.  It doesn't turn at all when in reverse and will turn both directions in neutral.  It makes no difference with the clutch pedal up or to the floor.  Of course the overdrive cable is frozen in the in position which I will also need to address.  It appears all the cables are frozen.  I have a feeling not much works on this car, but I still love it!

Thanks for the input.  Any ideas on how I can separate the two?  I wonder if the splines on the shaft and disc are "welded" together.  Do you think the weight of the engine, when pulling it, would be enough to pull them apart when I disconnect the bell housing?  If not how in the world will I get them apart?  I love Frazers!

Frazer Forum / Mamual Transmission Issues??????
« on: March 15, 2015, 07:28:27 PM »
Okay all you transmission guys.  As I slowly work toward pulling the frozen engine on this 1947 Frazer Manhattan I have some questions about the transmission.  A couple of days ago when it finally warmed up enough to get in the garage I removed the rear drive shaft.  This car has the flange type couplings.  While under the car I thought I would see if the transmission was free.  With the transmission is 1st, 2nd and 3rd I can turn the flange/shaft counter-clockwise but not clockwise.  In neutral I can turn the shaft/flange either direction.  In reverse it will NOT turn either direction.  The results are the same whether the clutch is engaged or not.  The car does have overdrive.  Is this normal or do I now have another problem in addition to the frozen engine.  I just love Frazers!

I agree with Joefrazer, it sounds as though you are 180 degrees out.

Frazer Forum / Rebuilding Dual Action Fuel Pump
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:53:50 AM »
I'm getting ready to rebuild a dual action fuel pump that I purchased on eBay.  The repair manual says I need a couple of special tools to do the job.  Is that true?  The hard part appears to me to successfully attach the diaphram rods to the rocker arm assembly.  They talk about a tool PT-8; is this something special or just some type of "hook"?  Has anyone ever rebuilt one of these pumps?  Is there an AC manual that better describes the rebuilding proceedure?  Thanks for any help you can give me.

What about the brackets; like for the generator and air cleaner.  Is the thermostat housing gray or black?  What about the water pump and vibration damper?  I think the radiator support rods are suppose to be black, at least that's what I've painted them.  Is the steering column black or the color of the car? (under the hood.)  It looks as though all vent ducting is suppose to be black.  Are the inte-rfenders suppose to be black or the color of the car?  I'm working on these issues a little at a time.  Waiting until Spring to pull the engine.

What about the 47 Frazer Manhattan?  And, where is a good place to get engine paint?

Willys Forum / 1942 Jeep Engine
« on: February 16, 2015, 09:46:59 AM »
A friend has a 1942 Willys jeep engine he would like to sell.  It is a 4 cyl. flathead.  I think he wants $200.00 for it.  No clutch or transmission.  It is a running engine, I'm told.  E-mail me if interested.
