General Discussion / Bob Dawson--early public relations person at KF
« on: July 12, 2011, 11:15:14 AM »

Back in 2002 I was sent a transcript of an interview with Mr Dawson. I sent this to Allen Hogle among others. Later after I had quit as Quarterly editor Allen was able to find Mr Dawson and talk with him by phone. Later on an article was published in the Quarterly ((Vol 38 Number2 2002).

I ran across that issue yesterday and did a quick Google to see if I could find any info on Mr Dawson. The link above shows he survived until Jan 2010.

Parts For Sale & Wanted / Re: kaiser frazer parts find
« on: July 12, 2011, 09:40:41 AM »
KF offered something called "initial parts stock" and suggested dealers have these items in stock. Many early dealers purchased from this list and a high percentage of them had a lot of this early stuff in stock when they went out of business. John Parker had barrels full of this stuff at one time. Items such as early lenses etc were a dime a dozen at early meets. Many dealers just put this stuff in the dump but some put it in the attic and there are still a few of these stocks around.

Kaiser Forum / Re: heater valve
« on: June 13, 2011, 04:08:46 PM »
We had a tech tip article on the repair in the Quarterly some years ago. My valve on my 54 I had at the time was shot and so I got Tom to repair it with one of the kits so he could write up an article. He said it was not very difficult just required careful attention to the tabs which have to be bent to get the valve apart. At the time the kit was less than $10 and the valve was still working when I sold the car years later.

I think 150 registrants means something different than 150 cars. I can't recall a meet where there was actually that many present.

Yes that is Gil Courtain.

It is funny how a car gets attached to an owner's name and tends to stick long after the car is no longer owned by him. That Dragon has had at least 2 owners since the Ferks had it. Dick Bailey owned it for a number of years and won many awards with it and then sold it.

I thought the Ouray meet was super. I had my first "dummy" issue of the Quarterly with me to show to the officers etc. I recall we had the "board" meeting in a motel room with everyone sitting on beds etc. Of course in those days the board was not really official. I recall Gil Courtain getting me from the parking lot and telling me I was on the board since I was the Quarterly editor and we were about to meet.

Cars For Sale & Wanted / Re: Another '51F on ebay

I think the seller added $1500 to his price because it had "only been driven once since 1969".

Kaiser Forum / Re: 1949 Kaiser/Frazer Taxi Cab?
« on: April 19, 2011, 04:41:41 PM »
Most of the pics that Walter Miller is selling on ebay are of course 48 models. As far as I am aware the factory did not offer a taxi model as such until 1949--the sales item depicts it. Of course that did not stop KF from promoting the earlier cars to be used as taxis etc and pics show up in the various issues of Dealer News of them in such use.

General Discussion / Re: HEMMINGS AND KAISER FRAZER

At one time John Parker was the prime source of new members. He sent info on the club to anyone who inquired about parts. Some response was generated by advertising in Old Cars etc. But when I started the club website that soon became the largest source of new members and we did not have the capability of online membership then. I suspect the internet is still the best source of new members. I also was sure to send a copy of the Quarterly to the club editor at Old Cars and several times they ran lengthy reviews etc. When I was vending at swap meets I always had a sign up offering info on the club as well.
