The reason I am asking is the above statement "popular item today but will get you points deducted in judging along with tubeless tires"
Will this tire work for the Judges on a 53 Kaiser Manhattan?
So, is this Tubeless Tire OK or do the Tires have to have Tubes?

Kaiser Forum / Re: 1953 Kaiser Traveler Deluxe - Shocks
« on: February 02, 2015, 02:24:54 PM »
I thought the Shocks need to be BLACK in order to make the Judges happy at the convention... In 2008 I got dinged for not having BLACK Shocks.. So if you buy these suggested here, you will have to pain them Black.. Is this correct today too? Thanks, EDC

Kaiser Forum / Re: How easy are kingpins to replace?
« on: May 18, 2010, 05:46:29 PM »
Thanks for the advice.
I found the correct kit (205777) $88.00 w/shipping which  I think is reasonable. Also found a local shop in Portland (in case you need them: Lineup Shop 503-234-9797) that would install them for hourly wage with a Est. of 1.5 hours per side. (A lot of shops around here will tell me they will not work on it unless they can get the parts (and they can not) then they can't warranty the work.) I think I will have them do both sides at the same time. He said " I have not done one of these Kaisers since 72, I look forward to working on it."
That works fine for me. Now for a sunny day so I can get the car over there and we will have a smooth ride again at high speeds. I can't wait :D Who knows, maybe I will even be able to drive it to the National next year in SD, Ca. :P

Thanks again for the comment -

BTW: I think this is more than a shim needed to get rid of all the play in the front wheel.
We will see, I will let you know how is goes.

Kaiser Forum / How easy are kingpins to replace?
« on: May 17, 2010, 11:08:36 AM »
Hello,

I first noticed that 53 Manhattan driver side Wheel starts to shake (wobble) at 58-64 MPH. When the car is Jacked up and the tire is grabbed at the top and shaken it seems to move slightly back and forth. My son happened me shake the tire so I can see what what going on. It seems (lookin in the Manual) that where the Steering knuckle and the Steering support come together there seems to be a KINGPIN.

See Ref. http://kaiserfan.auto.officelive.com/images/sK53.jpg and http://kaiserfan.auto.officelive.com/images/smK53.jpg

Now questions:
How hard is this to replace?
I have a box (that came with the car) that I believe is a new King Pin set, How can I tell if it is the correct one? There is a number on the box, but just written on a white box, no other markings.

The manual said I need to take out the break shoes, Do I really need to remove the break shoes?
It said to (after taking apart the whole wheel assembly) remove the steering arm from the bottom and then remove the lock pin. Does this kingpin and bushing and bearing just fall out? do I have to press them out?

Can this be done quickly on a weekend? or Should I just find a shop to change them out for me?

I plan on getting the whole front end adjusted, when I get new tires later this summer, but I need to get rid of this large issue first.
Thanks,
*EDC*

Well, I feel quite silly.
My spring is on the car, in the correct place, and Rust in color.

In fact, I just removed the Springs on the top of the engine and everything seems to work OK.

Not sure why someone put more Springs on the accelerator, I may find out in the future now that they are removed.

Thanks again for the expert Help!

OH, Thanks a lot!
So no spring(s) (which I have now) should be on the engine.
I need to check and see what is under the car :-\
ON the engine there are several springs, none of the them look orginal or what is in the picture below.

Thanks I will crawl under and see what I find:)

I know it is a little item and most likely not even worth the time for most people to put in an envelope and send it off, but I will ask anyway.

At the 50th National convention I got marked down by the judges because I have the wrong accelerator spring on the engine.

Would anyone be able to supply me with an original (excellent condition) accelerator Spring for my 226 engine in my 53 Kaiser Manhattan?

Thanks,
*EDC*

General Discussion / Re: Kaiser vinyl and paint
« on: May 10, 2010, 11:42:35 AM »
In my 53 Kaiser Manhattan the front has a rubber floor mat and the back was Carpet. I still have the orginal. I have replaced the rubber mat in front with black (because no one has RED:(). I got the carpet from the manufacturing club and had to sew on my own trim on the edges (i took it off the orginal Rug, look like the head liner material).
This is a picture showing the old Rubber mat in front, the White Bambu vinyl on the seat top and back of back, cloth on the regular seat. The Headliner is about the same material, but different pattern (not Bambu).

Hopefully this link will work:)  FINALLY ABLE TO ATTACH LINKS FOR PEOPLE, I AM SO HAPPY! :o

Thanks for the information!

On the coker tire website, http://www.cokertire.com/ you can select the year/make/model... and they suggest the size.

They show 670-15 , 710-15 and for radial recommended 205/75/15.

In the judging will radial tires be acceptable?
(I have read some of the other posts on Radial tires likes/dislikes/myths :)

Thanks,

Kaiser Forum / Correct tire for 53 Kaiser Manhattan?
« on: May 07, 2010, 09:33:37 PM »

I need a new set of tires for my 53 kaiser Manhattan.

From the other posts I gather:

Is the 670x15 with 2 11/16 WW the correct tire size?
Was the brand Goodyear of Firestone? Does it matter?

I want to make it original as the rest of the car is.
