TY for leads.  Have had two batterys eaten by failed chargers.  Casual research reveals this is not uncommon for 12V/6V chargers failing to auto switch to 6V

1. Suggestion on strongest/best 6V battery for six cylinder '53?
2. Suggestion on best battery tender?  Evidently the one I was using failed to automatically switch to 6V and fried my 4 month old Battery Source battery.

Brakes are spongy on 53 J.  So I looked in the service manual, rolled back the carpet, removed access plates.  Now what?  Can't get the filler cap off with a 1/2" breaker bar on a 3/4 socket.  No room to work.  Anyone with similar experience?

Thank y'all for the quick reply.  I'm  all thumbs with the computer and needed help responding.  I have lots of rabbits to chase with this car.  Four months at a repair shop including rebuilt generator, starter motor, fuel pump, replacement gas tank, news battery etc etc, and it still won't run.

But here is my main current concern.  Realize from the forum that the Henry is a positive ground.  But mine is negative.  Yes it did start and run for awhile.  What gives.  Were some neg ground?  If not who would change it and why and what are the consequences?

What size is the battery cable for a 6 cylinder.  Battery is new, but seems to turn over slowly.  Have a rebuilt generator, rebuilt starter. Chasin rabbits.
Thanks

I'm new here.  Have a '53 Henry J.  Engine seems to turn over slowly with new battery.  What size should battery cables be?

Thanks!
