Some LED bulbs are polarity sensitive. You have to check if they will work with positive ground.

Read the specs in the ad. I'm guessing the average Kaiser generator doesn't produce 7.3 volts at idle in drive with the lights on.

It's a two piece seal. It can be changed without removing the trans. The factory shop manual will help with this job.

Where are you and how much is it?

Have the calendars been sent out yet?  I'm watching for mine but haven't seen anything yet.

Kaiser Forum / Re: cold idle

The choke fast idle on the Kaiser sets when you first step on the gas before starting. If you step on the gas after it's started the fast idle will disengage. This is assuming that your choke is closing properly with a cold engine and that the fast idle cam works and is adjusted properly.

Kaiser Forum / Re: engine for '53 Kaiser Dragon

I looked in the Hollander Interchange manual. Hollander # 580     51-55 Kaiser 226 Hydramatic and 51 Frazer 226 Hydramatic is a direct interchange.  # 659 54-55 Willys car 226 Hydramatic short engine only. This means the block and it's internal parts are the same but not external parts. You couldn't use the Willys oil pan pump or pickup or some other external parts. They showed no further interchanges. Hope this helps.

Manual trans and Hydramatic engines don't interchange because the rear crankshaft flange is different. 51 to 55 Kaiser 226  engines are otherwise the same.

I used old fashion nonsynthetic Dexron II in my 54 Manhattan. I avoided the newer hi tech synthetic fluids. There is no telling what those new chemicals could do to a sixty year old transmission. Many of them didn't exist when the transmission was built.

The 54 Manhattan has a rag joint down near the steering box. The rubber could be worn out or the metal part could be loose on the shaft. Have a helper wiggle the steering wheel right and left while you watch the joint for play.

Kaiser Forum / Re: oil pressure light on at idle
« on: March 23, 2021, 09:01:29 PM »
You should check your oil pressure with a mechanical pressure gauge before you rebuild the pump. Low oil pressure at idle is not a major concern unless it is almost zero.  See how much it increases with increasing rpm's.  Also increase the rpms slowly and watch.
Do this before any serious driving. It's not unusual for a 226 to have low oil pressure. Worn bearings and/or oil pump could cause this. Ten pounds per thousand RPM would be good. Less than five pounds at idle fully warmed up would be bad.

General Discussion / Renew on line
« on: March 10, 2021, 11:30:13 PM »
I tried to renew on line the other day. Got to a certain point and couldn't get any further. I finally gave up.  Later I tried on the other computer and got it in no time. The first only had old internet explorer. The other one has Google Chrome.  So if you are having trouble make sure you have an up to date search.

Maybe I missed some of it. Which I did.  Thank you for the addresses. I will try them tomorrow.
