Cars For Sale & Wanted / Re: 1951 Frazer Manhattan for sale

The new owner is enjoying the Frazer very much indeed. He has shown it already. The new owner is a cofounder of a Concours event here in Massachusetts. He is showing the Frazer, but not entering for judging in the shows to avoid any conflict of interest.

I am relisting my 1951 Frazer Manhattan for sale. I thought it would be better to list it in the spring/summer than in the winter. It is ready for cruises and car shows. https://www.ebay.com/itm/145129372627 Asking $26,500.00 but I am open to reasonable offers, no trades please. I also have it listed at Hagerty Marketplace /www.hagerty.com/drivers-club/my-garage/aixdjypt/danieltortora/558a6ce4-e564-486e-b7a4-b81beb359786 and Hemmings Motor News https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/listing/1951-frazer-manhattan-charlton-city-ma-2696279

Good to know, another easier option to investigate.

I understand his problem is not the lining contacting the drum surface, but the sides of the shoes are contacting the drum face.

There are a couple of possible causes. Bad axle bearing, badly worn or damaged rollers, or the block in the center differential in the spider gears damaged or broken. The end play should be about .006" or so. That is a slight amount. If the axle moves in and out like .25" inches or more, then you have some damage in the differential or bearings. Possible bad axle but if it was good before doing the brakes that is doubtful. Time to investigate further.

With the drums off, do the axle shafts move in and out, or are they tight? If there is too much end play, the block inside the differential at the ends of the axleshaft may be worn or damaged.

Is it one rear brake drum or both rear brake drums contacting the brake shoes. There would be no wear between the hub and axle shaft. Did you remove the backing plates for the brakes and move the axle shims and seals?

I would check the end play of the axles. How did you remove the drums? If the axle shafts move too far inward, the spacer block in the spider gears may be damaged allowing the axle to move inward too much.

General Discussion / Re: What I've noticed on bias-ply tires
« on: September 10, 2022, 05:46:04 PM »
Question on air pressure your tires were set to. Radial tires are usually inflated to a higher pressure than bias ply tires due to the tire construction. ie: a tire on my 1951 Frazer Manhattan would be 24 psi for the 7.10 x 15 bias ply. Rides great at 24 psi. Radials would be 30 psi for a 215 x 75R x15. It also rides a little hard. If I deflated the radial to 24 psi it would ride great but steer like a tank. Just a question to help clear any confusion.

Frazer Forum / Re: re idler arm replacement
« on: August 21, 2022, 06:46:04 AM »
One quick way to tell, is to watch the idler for movement while you move the steering wheel back and forth. Keep the wheels on the ground in the straight ahead position. If the idler arm is moving up and down, then tighten it until the movement is pretty much gone. then road test to make sure the steering wheel returns to center after a turn.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Adding power brakes to a 54 Manhattan.

I added a dual master cylinder and booster to my 1951 Frazer Manhattan. I mounted it on the frame using the stock pedal and fabricated a mounting bracket to keep everything near the stock location. Works great and looks as if the factory put it there.

Believe what you wish. I have followed this protocol for 20 years or so and have had no issues.
