Is this for the '49? Mine is a '47.   Thank you all for your replies.  Always a big help.

Frazer Forum / Valve tappet adjustment, part 2.
« on: March 05, 2017, 05:31:06 PM »
I have been doing my homework on this pending project (reading shop manual and studying the parts book) and am somewhat wary of removing the lf inner fender splash shield to gain access for the tappet adjustment. The shop manual is pretty forward, just remove the splash shield.  I am afraid of removing too much hardware and affecting the fender mounting/alignment although reading the parts manual breakdown that there are 5 bolts (on top), 2-3 on the 'frame' but a lot of screws towards the front where it attaches to what I call the radiator support.  Has anyone removed this shield and if there are any words of advice you could pass along?  I really hate disturbing anything but it is necessary to gain access to the tappets.

Thank you for the quick reply. Are the wrenches the correct sizes?

Frazer Forum / Valve/tappet adjustment

Due to a low compression issue on my 47 Frazer, I have been advised that it could possibly be a result of 'too tight' adjustment on 2 exhaust valves (according to the older techs at work). I have read the shop manual and it does not seem to be too technical a procedure but does not specify the wrench size to do t he adjustment.  Special tool numbers are listed but I do not have those.  Would anyone have any 'words of wisdom' on this as I really do not want to get into a valve job only as a last resort.  I could not find any mileage interval for this adjustment but I do know the engine was rebuilt in the late 70's including a valve job.  The accumulated mileage is about 25k since then.  I miss driving the car this fall and hope this will correct the problem.   Thank you in advance.

Frazer Forum / 1947 Frazer Spark plugs
« on: July 22, 2016, 07:01:24 PM »
I recently replaced the spark plugs in my Frazer with another set of Motorcraft A7C plugs.  The  previous set had been in for a few years and the reason I replaced was due to cosmetic issues (rusty). I cannot find a definitive listing of applicable spark plugs and have relied on my Motors Book or shop manual.  When I first got involved with KF products, I remember AL7C was the norm(?). Is the A7C ok to use or should I be using another plug?
For some reason now, just because I replaced the plugs some driveability issues have surfaced. I found some green corrosion on the distributor cap end of the wires so I replaced with a set of repro wires purchased from Carl Herring. I also replaced the cap due to some light corrosion issues.  The car had been running ok until I changed the plugs so I am confused over why it now  feels like its running on 5 cylinders under load and the exhaust seems to 'blat'.  With the help of a knowledgeable friend we rechecked the firing order, replaced a leaking plug wire and rechecked the carb adjustments.  The only other link I can think of is the coil which I have no idea how long it has been on the car. Do they tend to break down with age and engine rpm?  If that is the case, I do not find a separate listing for the coil in an autolight ignition system.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Again the car seemed to be running ok until I replaced the plugs recently and am thoroughly confused over this.

Frazer Forum / front wheel bearings and cups
« on: May 26, 2016, 07:39:50 AM »
I recently acquired a pair of NOS front hub and brake drums for my 47 Frazer. I am looking for an accurate NAPA cross reference for the inner and outer bearings and cups. The NAPA interchange (through the club) shows inner and outer bearings but no cups. KF part #s are as follows: #201163 inner cone
                                                                                                                                   #201162 inner cup
                                                                                                                                   #201165 outer cone
                                                                                                                                   #201164 outer cup
I would like to have the parts 'in hand' before I take things apart.
                                                                            Thank you

Frazer Forum / Re: Potential fuel mileage for 1947 Frazer
« on: September 27, 2015, 04:46:35 PM »
Hi:
I own an early 47 Frazer with the 1bbl carb and factory overdrive.  I have tried to keep everything as Henry built it. It gets 20-22 mpg with a high of 23-24 on the interstate (staying about 50-55mph.)  With the 20 gal fuel tank, that is a pretty good range.  Incidently, I am fortunate to have 3 non ethanol gas stations within a 5 mile radius.  The car loves the 91 octane fuel and I don't have to worry as much about the ethanol problems.

Frazer Forum / Re: Distributor replacement
« on: July 18, 2014, 09:39:45 AM »
Thanks to all who responded so quickly.  Being a career auto parts professional (Ford) I am a bit concerned over the adapter shaft between the oil pump and distributor.  Should I be concerned over this shaft as it does not seem to appear in the parts book?

Frazer Forum / Distributor replacement
« on: July 17, 2014, 07:24:56 PM »
After chasing a persistent exhaust backfire a idle for sometime, todays diagnosis indicated excessive play/looseness in the distributor shaft. The shop manual is a bit vague on distributor replacement.  In addition, the parts book illustration shows the oil pump shaft to the cam, then some unknown, unnamed shaft then going up to the distributor.  My question is twofold: what is this mystery shaft and is it a major component necessary with the distributor replacement., and is there a specific sequence one needs to follow to replace the distributor assy.  Again the shop manual just stated to 'remove distributor.'  I am just trying to line up information before proceeding with the distributor replacement.  Thank you in advance for any advice.

Frazer Forum / Re: Carburator rebuild Kit

Bought a kit last summer from the Carburetor Doctor, www.carbkitsource.com.  Kit had latest space age seals etc.  Good service cost $70.00.

Frazer Forum / proper oil filter cartridge
« on: October 27, 2013, 04:24:41 PM »
I am trying to rectify an ongoing oil leak @the top of the oil filter canister on my 1947 Frazer. This has been a persistent and annoying problem I think I know what is going on. Changed the oil and filter a few weeks ago, started engine and found oil coming out of top of housing lid.  Just enough to drip down and make a mess. Once it gets down about a quart, it isn't so problematic.  I have been using a NAPA #1080 filter which fits quite nicely but I now don't think is 'tall' enough to seal properly when the top is screwed on, no resistance is felt so I don't think the spring is compressing to initiate the seal.  My cross reference list also showed a slightly taller filter, NAPA #1010, but that won't even fit over the center piece in the filter housing itself.  Now I'm confused and frustrated.  I did read somewhere that you could place a shim in the top assembly to cause the spring to push down on the seal but am uncomfortable with that.  Maybe my cross reference is wrong.  I've had the car a few years but only encountered(or created) this problem within the past 2 years when I started using the NAPA filter.
Thank you in advance for any advice.
