This is my third time back with KFOCI. Too old to buy a lifetime membership, but planning on staying this time. 1958 given my first broken down 1951 Henry J to rebuild. I learned a lot. 1961 joined the US Air Force, sold my 1951 Henry J. 1979 bought my next 1951 Henry J. 1982 met my wife-to-be and we decided to get married. She "convinced" me to sell my Henry J (bad omen). 2015 bought my third 1951 Henry J (without asking permission). It was pictured in the book, Last Onslaught On Detroit. I loved it, wife hated it, would not even look at it. 2017 sold third Henry J. 2018 she moved into an assisted living facility. I remained in my house with my dogs. My dogs and I need another Henry J. Prefer a 1951 with a trunk lid, overdrive, and in excellent condition. Too old for a project car. Will provide a loving, caring home for a new-to-me Henry J. Prefer original condition, but will consider a resto-mod.

Thanks for the replies. As I recall from 55+ years ago, when I didn't have a torque wrench, I tighten the nut as much as I could and then backed off to the cotter pin hole. Thanks again.

The Henry J Service Standards book for 1951-1952-1953 states to torque the axle shaft nut to a minimum of 160 foot-pounds (page 22). The Henry J Service Manual book for 1951-1952-1953 states to torque the axle shaft nut to 70-100 foot-pounds (pages 117 and 133). Which is correct?

Need to replace the rear brake shoes on my 1951 Henry J Deluxe 161. RockAuto says there part number for the HJ is out of stock and lists a different part number for an Allstate. Summit Racing shows the same shoes that RockAuto lists for the Allstate, but shows that they will fit a 1951 Henry J. All very confusing. What are your recommendations for replacement shoes, to include having existing shoes relined. Thanks.

Lester Becker purchased the car from a lady in Wilber, NE in the 1960’s.
Lester Becker sold the car to a guy in Ohio in 1968. *1

Neil Greener purchased the car from ____________ in _____________
Neil Greener sold the car to John Haller.
It was John (now deceased) who claimed that Neil confirmed to him that the car was the one pictured in The Last Onslaught.*2

John Haller sold the car to Ervin Fideler in June 1996 in Minneapolis*2
Lowell Fideler (Ervin’s son) sent a picture of the Henry J parked in his driveway in June 1996 along with his (Lowell’s) 1953 Henry J.

Ervin Fideler sold the car to a club member in San Diego, CA in 1999*2

Ted Harrington bought the car from someone in California around 2005
Ted Harrington sold the car to Joe Faso, in Stockton, CA in 2005.*3

Joe Faso sold the car to Steve Davis, in Arizona in 2006.

Steve Davis sold the car to George Bryan, Evans, GA in 2014*4

George Bryan sold the car to me, Mike Monroe, Tulsa, OK in 2014

There comes a time when one must let go of the things they love. That time has come for my 1951 Henry J to go to another owner, This Henry J was the one featured on page 251 of the book, The Last Onslaught On Detroit, published in 1975. The Henry J was owned at that time by Neil Greener.

While tracing past owners of this Henry J, Lowell Fideler (Fid) advised that his father, Ervin Fideler had purchased this Henry J from John Haller (now deceased) who had purchased the car from Neil Greener. John, known as a non-BS’er, told Ervin that Neil always claimed that the car was the one published in The Last Onslaught. Fid sent a picture of this (his dad’s) Henry J sitting in his driveway along with Fid’s own Henry J.

The car is solid, with no rust holes in the floor, rocker panels, trunk, or anywhere else. The upholstery appears to be original. Odometer shows approximately 73,000. A few small chips at the front of the car and between the hood and cowl.
Driver’s windshield wiper has play in it. It has a radio that hums but does not play. I do not know the status of the overdrive as I have only driven the car a few miles and never fast enough to engage the overdrive. I was assured that it worked by two previous owners, but I do not know.

I’m asking a not-for-profit price of $17,500. I have had the car for a year. My wife has never even looked at the car, even when friends of hers look at it. Need I say more. You are buying a piece of Henry J/Kaiser Frazer history. I have lots of pictures and can email more to anyone interested in the car.

After the sale of the Henry J, I will be selling all of my related paper goods.

Checker, thanks for posting the pro street. I, too, appreciate the work that goes into the conversions. Should I find one that is within my price range, I would consider it in addition to my stock HJ.

I drove up to see the car when the owner was trying to sell it for $13,000 on Craigslist. I did not make an offer on the car. Caveat Emptor applies here. The floor looked like a patch work quilt from underneath and the steering wheel had 3-4 inches of play. It started and ran well, but I was afraid to take it for a test drive. The vin color code was correct for black, but the lighting was poor and I could not make out other details. The owner was pleasant and we talked for quite a while about a variety of topics, but not much about the car since I had decided early on that I was not interested.
